I am a returning patient. I needed a consult on an area previously treated by Dr Huff/D.O. in 2017, but more recently reinjured in an auto accident. They got me in smoothly within a 24hr period, thrilled that Dr Huff was still there and at least cleared up what wasn't a "direct" correlation. If I need to go another step regarding a neighboring body part, I will return to Desert Ortho for the hand issues.

I went in for a very painful shoulder a few years ago. I had been to 4 doctors before I went to Dr. Huff and none of them would listen to me. I have had issues in the past with impingement syndrome and knew this wasn't any different and he listened, took xrays, and gave me the cortisone shot I was needing. Dr Huff has a very easy going rapport with patients. He made it very easy to explain what had happened and my treatment plan. I didn't even have to dig out my dusty anatomy books to understand what he was saying.
I was very apprehensive after breaking my shoulder and having to find a doctor that was in network and accepting new patients. Thank goodness my insurance found the center and a quick appointment .

I was seen as a first time new patient and would rate my appointment with Dr. Lawrence Huff from check in to check out as perfect! Everyone with whom I interacted was kind and knowledgeable. I was quickly checked in, placed in a room where I was asked additional questions regarding my medical history, then sent down the hall for an X-ray which was inside the medical office, so convenient! Dr. Huff saw me shortly after the X-ray. I found him to be pleasant and patient as we discussed my current condition. The very best. Confident, friendly, informative to me and my family before and after surgery. Spent time with my wife post surgery that made her feel fully informed. Dr. Huff has treated me for two frozen shoulder surgeries, one on each arm, 2.5 years apart. He’s quick to get the ball rolling towards a solution. Both surgeries were fast and without complications. My wife began experiencing pain in her shoulders in late 2023. We scheduled an appointment with DOCLV. We saw Dr. Huff and after several appointments and MRI, he determined she had rotator cuff tears in both her right and left shoulders, with the right being the worst tear. He performed a surgery to repair it in January 2024. After the surgery, he came to the waiting room and explained to me that she didn’t have a tear after all, she only had some scar tissue which he “broke up” by lifting her arm forcefully and then scraping out. He stated he’d never seen anything like it. We were initially relieved, but fast forward weeks and months and the pain had only worsened, functionality had continued to decline. All the while Dr. Huff kept referring her to physical therapy, administering steroid shots, recommending surgery for her left shoulder, and generally dismissing her complaints. Finally, 7 months later, he agreed to recommend a follow-on MRI, which he used to confirm that she did indeed still have a full tear in her right shoulder.

By this point we sought out a second opinion. We checked DOCLV patient portal for her records and initially couldn’t find the surgery report. After calling repeatedly, it now showed up on the portal. The report opened with comments about my wife’s mental health and personal life, comments that were not true and had no relevance to a rotator cuff surgery. It appeared to us that this report was written to minimalize my wife’s ongoing struggles and discredit her account of this whole experience. The report also stated that during the surgery they did observe a tear and did not repair it, only that they scraped out some scar tissue. This is in direct contrast to what Dr. Huff told us for 8 months following the surgery.

When she called DOCLV to question this, she was shuffled from person to person, dismissed, told she was wrong, with some of the staff being very rude while doing so. Eventually, the report was revised, with the unrelated comments removed. What is disheartening is that they were there in the first place, and the staff kept defending them, saying they were necessary and common to include, only to then quietly alter their report. To their credit, a manager did call back afterwards and apologize.

So now, 18 months after this began, she is consulting and preparing for a surgery with a different doctor, outside of DOCLV. Still in pain, still trying to get back to being her. She has been a personal trainer, a fitness competitor, and working out regularly is a huge part of her wellbeing.

My wife is black, I am white. Her experience is much different from mine, as I had previously seen DOCLV for back issues. Her experiences in general with the medical community differs from mine. This seems to be another example of black women being discounted, being treated differently, assumed through racist stereotypes to experience pain less, to be “angry”, and just generally not receive the same quality of care as white people. I’m not here to accuse Dr. Huff or DOCLV of intentional racism. I do believe this is an example of the medical industry’s inherent inequality regarding race and gender. Our hope is that DOCLV can be more aware, be better. Neither my wife nor I will be returning to DOCLV for this or any other issue in the future.

This is my second visit to Dr Huff. The staff is amazing.....from an appointment change, requested by me, to the friendliness of everyone in the office. I went in for rotator cuff tear surgery, in January of 2024. The injury: full-thickness rotator cuff tear. Dr. Huff was my surgeon. After the procedure, my spouse and I were informed that no rotator cuff tear could be found during the surgical procedure only scar tissue, which was arthroscopically removed. We were also shown images of the findings. After months of physical therapy, constant pain, and finally another MRI months showed the full-thickness tear was still present and had increased in severity. According to Dr. Huff, he had never seen this before as a highly experienced orthopedic surgeon. UMC Orthopedic confirmed the tear was still present and had worsened compared to the pre-surgery MRI. The Mayo Clinic in Rochester also confirmed I still had a full-thickness tear and, at the time of the procedure, most likely a frozen shoulder as well. I will leave an excerpt below.

They were shocked anyone could miss it during surgery; doctors and surgeons from two separate facilities. The best hospital In the United States I will add. Another concern is that the surgery report was not put into my account until ten months later, with disparaging language, about my mental health, and conflicting information about my procedure, and what was found. It was troubling to the point that I was afraid it would negatively affect the care I receive in the future from other doctors reviewing the notes. A year out and I still cannot lift weights, train as a personal trainer, or compete as a fitness competitor. I need another operation to repair my rotator cuff.

A year after Dr Huff's “ surgery “ Excerpt from Mayo Clinic about my case. It would seem reasonable to proceed with the surgery recommended by her local provider to treat the cartilage and rotator cuff tendon injuries (noted to include "acute appearing retracted, demyelinating interstitial tear of the infraspinatus," "high-grade tear of the supraspinatus at the critical zone, increased in severity since the prior MRI," and " SLAP tear, also increased in severity and extent" since the prior MRI.

I originally went to another doctor, and he recommended a surgery that didn’t sound beneficial to my condition, so I wanted a second opinion and was referred by a friend to DOC.

Dr. Huff was very knowledgeable and welcoming, he took the time to break things down and clearly explained my condition to me. About 4 years ago I had my left shoulder replaced (socket and all). I was in fear of the same thing with my right, but like always Lawrence Huff (and all other staff) know how to get it done. I did not have to have my shoulder replaced, but took a shot of cortisone, and it really helps a lot.
Also, Dr Thomas Dunn worked on my neck in three back surgeries and they were always successful. I have so much confidence in DESERT ORTHOPEDIC CENTER. AWESOME 👍

I did not have to wait to see Dr. Huff. He gave me an injection and his medical assistant said the full response would be around four days. All night I had been relieved of pain. Dr Huff and staff were great!! I recommend Dr Huff highly.. I went into his office for tennis elbow, I had lost strength in my dominate arm and was in a lot of pain. Dr. Huff did an evaluation of my elbow and said I needed a shot in the tendon/elbow I was terrified because I've had a shot before and the pain was almost unbearable. To my pleasant surprise the shot was nothing like the other one I had a few years ago. Dr Huff was so good, at what he did, that the shot did not hurt much. I have always been happy with the doctors and staff from Desert Orthopedic in Las Vegas. Dr. Winder, Dr. Dunn, and Dr. Huff are wonderful and take their time with their patients and do every thing they can to help their patients from having to deal with pain in their body. I have had multiple meniscus tears in both knees from sports over the years and Dr. Winder sent me to physical therapy instead of going through orthoscopic surgery. It worked each time and saved me from having to miss work for many months. Dr. Dunn has been helping my wife with her bulging discs in her lower back for the past five years and always gives her the best plan for her recovery. Dr. Huff helped me with my shoulder pain and explored every option after looking at the x rays. Two days after Dr. Huff gave me a steroid shot in my shoulder I feel 100 percent. No more pain.

Everything about my actual stay and the procedure was the best I’ve had and this was my 5th shoulder surgery. Unlike other hospitals, every single professional working there was without any attitude, happy in their jobs, helpful as could possibly be. I went to see Dr. Huff several times and it was all a waste of my time. I paid $30 for just the copayment alone aside from the ridiculous fees they charged my insurance and got nothing resolved. He did not provide a diagnosis after several visits and just seemed confused so he sent me back to my primary doctor. Had I known this was going to be a waste of my time I would have never gone there in the first place. Additionally upon checking out the receptionist was extremely moody and appeared to be having a very bad day. Will never return here or recommend this place!

My experience with the Doctor was exceptional and his supporting nurses we're the same. However, the online appointment process was a total failure. They never returned my request for appointment online. I was forced to two days later to make the appointment via telephone. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with the online service to the phone person, they became defensive and rude with me and stated it often takes more than two days for them to respond to online appointment requests. To which, I suggested the do away with it if that is the kind of service they are going to provide anyone using the online request/internet appointment service. Because they failed provide me with an appointment, I instead went to UMC quick care and learned from them I had a broken elbow, and they referred back to Dessert Orthopedic Center. I then chose to use the phone to make my future appointment. I would rate online appointment process a big ZERO. However, the doctor and his medical staff were great.

Do not bother with this Doctor. I have waited on many occasions, sometimes up to hours only to be seen by another doctor. Today, I was late by 10 minutes, only because I went to the wrong office and I was told the Dr would not see me because I was late. My time is just as important as his…he feels like he can waste my time by making us sit in his waiting room for hours at a time, but god forbid someone is late 10 minutes…he has a fit and cancels. I will never go back to him. This guy is in it just for the money and does not care about his patients and their pain.

I’ve been coming to see Dr. Huff since 2018 when I fractured my elbow. He did the surgery and everything went very well.. I saw him also in 2020 and had my right shoulder replaced. Dr. Huff has very helpful in explaining everything about what is going on with my left shoulder. We now have a plan of action and I trust his counsel and am grateful for how we will move forward. My experience with Dr. Lawrence was excellent. He was very kind, friendly, and attentive. He listened carefully to my concerns and clearly explained everything to me.
