I went on my first visit at Southwest Medical in Montecito on July 14, 2026. Easily, the place impressed me with prompt reception and helpful staff. I was assisted by Stephanie. After a brief wait, I was called by Jessica, who is Dr. Carlo Buena’s assistant. The intake by Jessica was friendly and professional at the same time.

I could not have selected a better Primary Doctor than Dr. Carlo Buena! He’s very through, has excellent communication and highly knowledgeable. He meticulously went through my medical records and took time to understand my concerns and the status of my health.

5-star all the way! I highly recommend this clinic and give high marks to Dr Buena and his medical team!

I just had a problem with the quest diagnostics center. I have a phobia of needles and I have had bad experiences with needles. So while getting my blood drawn. I told the nurse I was nervous ofc. She looked like she didn’t care and brushed what I said off. Then she called another nurse to just hold my hand. Which made me feel a bit more comfortable. But while we finished the blood draw. The nurses were all just picking at me because I’m 23 and scared of needles. The lady holding my hand while doing the draw said his hands were sweaty in like a rude way. One nurse told me “how old are you? 18, 20?” It just seemed rude. Then while signing papers I always joke about my signature because it’s bad. The nurse said “ you don’t know how to write cursive” then told the other nurses “get this boy outta my chair.” I thought she was joking but she seemed serious. Then while doing my drug screen in the bathroom which is right next to the lab. I can hear them talking about me. Overall it was just unprofessional the way they talked to me. Other than that the blood draw was great and fast. But the nurses at the quest diagnostics should check themselves.

Drove my mom to SW Medical today, 4/10/2026, for blood work and a doctor appointment. My Mom has to use her double wide manual wheelchair for appointments instead of her electric wheelchair because RTC Paratransit doesn't pick up in my neighborhood (she lives with me). The manual chair is so wide that she has to stand up and use her walker to get through the doors to the exam rooms, I have to fold the chair to get it through the door, and then, once we're through the door, I open the chair so she can sit back down. It really wears her out. By the time we got upstairs to Adult Medicine for her doctor appointment, she was completely pooped. The nurse who called her back, got two other nurses to assist us getting from the waiting room to the back. After the appointment, there were literally like 5 people- nurses and doctors- who came to assist my Mom out of the room. Two nurses then escorted us to the service elevator and out the ambulance entrance so Mom wouldn't have to stand up again to get back into the main lobby. They also pushed her to the car and helped her get in the car. I just want to commend the staff in the Adult Medicine department. You made my Mom's day. She said she felt like she was getting the VIP treatment. These days, that kind of customer service in medical establishments is rare. Thank you and may God bless you all!

Horrible, not professional at all they ignore you and your needs and talk over you and don't follow up at all dont check your charts at all either too lazy or just incompetent to not even care dont talk to each other make up new diagnoses after not checking charts they dont want to hear that you have negative feedback.They will ignore your call and leave you on hold. very rude and when they call you, they don't even look why you were even there to get checked on in the first place. they didn't even tell me I had a prescription.I had to find out differently and had to pick it up late since I was never told or contacted that I had a prescription. I've had multiple encounters with this one facility and it is horrible.They don't care about you at all multiple different things to check on over the years and every one i went to was not professional and treat you like trash

Horrible experience, I heard the doctor and a nurse making fun of me and laughing at me through the door as I was waiting to be seen. Regardless of what I was going in for they should be kind and understanding. I also heard the doctor Zimmerman complain about having to come in and see me because I had questions for her. When she came in she was in a rush to get me out of there and I understand I was the last appointment of the day but that was so unprofessional. I felt uncomfortable and its saddening that I felt that way in a doctors office where you're supposed to be treated kindly and professionally.

I’m extremely disappointed I would with the care I received at this hospital. From my experience, if I can give 0 stars I would this place is clearly geared toward menopause patients and is not the right environment for pregnant women.

As someone currently pregnant, I felt completely unsupported and overwhelmed. Almost every conversation seemed to revolve around miscarriage and “stress management” — which made things even more stressful. How is anyone supposed to manage stress when that’s the only thing being talked about? There was very little reassurance, compassion, or helpful information about my actual condition.

For example, I was told to prepare for a miscarriage, which was terrifying — only to find out later that my baby 3 days later at a women’s clinic that everything is completely fine, with a strong heartbeat of 150 bpm. Now bmp 173 11 weeks and counting. The blood they saw in my uterus turned out to be a subchorionic hematoma, and it’s already shrinking a fairly common condition in pregnancy. But no one explained that to me — instead, it was treated like a crisis without context or clarity.

I do not recommend this place for pregnancy care. Unless you're going through menopause, look elsewhere. Pregnant women deserve knowledgeable, supportive, and balanced care — not fear-based assumptions and vague advice about stress.

Worse obgyn that I have been to. Terrible with communication. I went in for excessive bleeding and wasn’t treated fair at all. One appt I had to come in a wheel chair because I was bleeding so bad and they turned me away to the er which er can do nothing for me. Which my appt was for a consultation for surgery. Canceled my appt with no explanation. Meanwhile I’m still bleeding bad even after going to the er. They were trying to schedule me two weeks out. By then I could have bled to death. With that being said I was finally able to get some relief I had to be admitted to Sunrise Hospital having to have 4 blood transfusions and they did an emergency hysterectomy and did amazing. When my own healthcare provider couldn’t even be considerate enough to help me. They just watched me suffer. So anyone looking for a compassionate obgyn this is not them. I also filed a grievance hopefully someone will listen.

Literally had the most frustrating awful experience here and I haven’t even seen a doctor yet. I have to be scheduled for a test that has to be done on certain days of my cycle. I’ve called every month for 5 months now. First, they didn’t see my referral, then they did but they had no availability on the days I needed in the cycle. Then again, they had no availability. Then I call today, and they can’t schedule me because NOW the referral actually wasn’t sent right even though they said nothing about that the last 3 months. Horrible service.

I was placed on hold for 30 minutes, I finally get to talk to someone even though it said wait time is >3 minutes. A black lady picks up in the most zombie voice and gives me attitude. I verified my info and then she tells me to just look at my mychart instead of reviewing my labwork with me. She puts me on hold and then immediately hangs up on me. So this “receptionists” is getting paid to be disrespectful and dishonest? Please..this is a common occurrence at this facility. Even the “bill” statement that I have contacted the billing department for, My insurance COVERS it and yet they want me to still pay it? How many times have I gone over this with them and they said they’ll take care of it? Who is the person that runs this place? I would like to have a proper conversation with them. You cannot just brush off someones medical necessity.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE my first appointment was a routine appointment i was advised that i’d be called within the week if any results were abnormal i never received a call until almost three weeks later advising me that no tests were performed i had to speak to 3 different people who all told me different things one of which was that my test was performed and that it was all normal to which i replied that their office had advised me that wasn’t possible due to the test being expired no one knew what they were talking about or why i even needed to do another appointment they contacted me multiple times to reschedule which i was reluctant to do because why would i go back to see you after you took that long to advise me my tests were invalid over a mistake the office made i then reschedule my appointment and at the time of scheduling the appointment i listed my menstrual cycle being a concern the appointment was scheduled 3 weeks out and the day before is cancelled because they assumed I was menstruating they called me once left no voice mail even texted me to confirm my appointment and then called my emergency contact to advise my appointment was just cancelled without any confirmation from me that i was actually menstruating (which i wasn’t ) an absolute waste of time horrible costumer service and no communication what so ever definitely do not recommend and will never go back to this office.

I realized that I was not the only one Dr.Javier canceled my appointment without notice or understandable excuse based on other patients' feedback. I used my vacation to visit there and wasted it because of their unprofessional work role.
I had to call them to rearrange my updated appointment a few times because they were sending me text messages to confirm the previous appointment. It seemed there was a gap between Southwest Medical and Dr. Javier's office. They kept messing up messages from Southwest Medical about my appointment. The reason they canceled my treatment was that they didn't prepare anything for my treatment today and just told me to postpone it to another day. Dr. Javier did not show up at all and no apology from any staff there.
They acted like so used to it or ignored the patient. I felt very bad when I was leaving the office...what a waste of my day with anonymous and disrespectful people...

I was diagnosed with chiari malformation a few years ago which causes a variety of issues. I recently came down with bronchitis and when you have chiari simple things like just bending over can cause excruciating pain so non stop coughing has left me with an excruciating migraine all week. The pain has been so bad I can barely function. After 4 days of this pain I finally go into southwest hoping for some kind of relief. Dr. Mogollon looked disgusted when I asked for some kind of pain relief. He made me feel like I was asking for something unreasonable and made me feel like he could care less about my pain scale and proceeded to tell me I don't need anything for pain because I need to treat my symptoms. Which I'm fully aware the symptoms of the bronchitis are causing the pain, I work in the medical field. Here I am 2 days later working off of maybe 2 hours of sleep a night because the pain is so excruciating. I'm not a Dr but when you know medication is going to take days to kick in why would you not offer your patient some kind of relief for a few days until the medication kicks in? This place is a waste of time if you need actual help..... if you need a drs note they're great if you need actual assistance find a real medical office or go to the ER because they'll treat you like a junkie if you're in any kind of pain. Drs like the one I saw are the exact reason I avoid going to the dr unless it's an emergency. I'll likely end up in the er and this placed just milked my insurance to do virtually nothing for me other than give me a drs note to go back to work and blindly prescribe me an antibiotic for a cough, no tests were ran the just took a shot in the dark and gave me no official diagnosis.

My 55 year old mother has early signs of cancer. She at first had an ultrasound and it was 5 mm. They recently did another one and it’s 10 mm. Her ultrasounds were not done by Dr Sarah Javier. However she had complications with her original doctor which lead the doctors boss being involved. Please explain why Dr Sarah Javier denied my mother service for no reason when she showed on time for her appointment. Dr Sarah Javier assistant at the front desk was apparently speaking for Dr Sarah (making her do all the dirty work) and said that it was because my mother “needed to go to her original doctor”. My poor mother broke down into tears in this woman’s office. Her original doctor cannot see her for 40 days, this is CANCER this cannot wait. Dr Sarah deserves all 3- stars you’re clinic has and I’m so sorry her career has made her lack human empathy

Do not recommend. Sarah Javier does not offer quality service. Has a very nonchalant attitude when it comes to patient care. Also if you file a complaint against her because her lack of care she will no longer see you. I had an appointment for post op today for a surgery date. I arrived on time only to be told she wasn’t going to see me and no longer do the procedure ( which they have the right to do). Had no answer to why I wasn’t informed of this before today. This alone shows how unprofessional this place is. I filed another complaint. I had a biopsy done and she did not give me the proper results reading my primary had to tell me. Worst experience ever. Ladies if you are experiencing long term bleeding or anything that is abnormal do not waste your time going here. She is definitely not the best but definitely the worse obgyn I ever had to deal with.

The staff here is nice but the waiting is never-ending. I average an hour of waiting passed my appointment time each visit. Calls are never returned promptly and may take up to a few days. Call hold times are always at a "Higher call volume" so expect to wait about 30 minutes for someone to answer. Prescription refills take longer than a week to get approved. The location is great for me but I'm willing to travel to get better service.

As a new patient, I have called to make an appointment multiple times now and have never gotten through to a live person. I sit on hold for upwards of 45 minutes each time. I even requested the call back option, only to be called back after hours, be placed back on hold and no one answers. It doesn't matter what time of day I call, they're always experiencing "higher than normal call volumes". I give up. I have already called my insurance company and had a new provider selected completely outside of SMA.

Dr. Nesbys office is horrible i drove 45 minutes just for her to tell me she couldn't view the CD of my imaging because they don't have the equipment to view a simple CD & didn't have access to my medical records so i had to fill out a release. The MA walks in & tells me to fill it out to the best of my abilities, I did as i was walking out the MA rudely asks me is there no location no fax? I wrote the ER & location the least her lazy self could do is look up the fax number. After Dr. Nesby was no help didnt even look at me or ask me what was wrong how long nothing. All i wanted was to get out of there what a waste of time. Some people really aren't cut out to be in the medical field

Don't go here if you use Tricare. It took me over 3 to get medication. I switched PCMs so many times because they kept repeatedly telling me that I need to obtain a referral. The only problem was, I could never reach my PCM because they kept telling me I needed to obtain a referral to talk to my PCM. You're also always routed to their call center and unable to speak with anyone directly and the people at the call center don't always have all the details and constantly got things wrong. It has been a nightmare trying to get ANYTHING done.

The doctors, nurses, radiologists, lab technicians and staff have all been very professional and friendly to me each time I have visited. I have been to Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) Montecito location for most of my medical needs. I've been seen here by appointment and through the urgent care. Both experiences have been quick, on time and very thorough. I have a Medicare Complete plan which they take. I recommend SMA to anyone looking for a new Doctor in the Las Vegas Metro area.

I have tried in vain for over 2 months to get an appointment with hematology but they will not answer their phone and then when they finally did they said they never got my referral from my primary. Once I finally got someone to listen to me after calling and visiting the doctor now I am suppose to wait for the hematology dept to contact me, I was told if they get my records. I have a blood clot I was told it was urgent, I am over 2 months waiting and today I find out I am still waiting . What good is your care?the nice lady at the front desk said that my paperwork was closed out accidentally and asked the doctor to resubmit it. I was told to wait an hour and call for an appointment that I was told because of all the hassles would be made for me. But when I called I was once again told they couldn't help me as onlyvthe referral dept could do anything. I guess I need another facility.

Southwest Medical/ Optum Care is a terrible healthcare provider. In my opinion, the doctors and medical care are sub- par. The doctors do not seem to have the capability or knowledge to diagnose or treat patients correctly. The PA’s are much better than the actual doctors. The medical records department employees have no idea what they are doing. They are unorganized and incompetent.
Let me add, I just got informed by the BBB that after reading my review Southwest Medical cannot find me as a patient and they records. I have been going there for the last 8 1/2 years. not surprising. The level of unprofessionalism is outstanding.
