Two days before my last scheduled appointment with Dr. X in late April, 2023, his office called to inform me that they do not accept my new insurance with Aetna, which began in January, 2023. Dr. X had been my PCP for more than two decades. It appears this change was basically due to a corporate decision, driven by profit-based considerations, rather than patients' interests & care.
What I have been through to find a new PCP has been a nightmare. One major issue was obtaining my medical records. First, I received faulty information from Optum employees, causing me multiple trips to their office, and then to the offices of Quest & Steinberg. The two hundred pages I eventually received by mail contained several pages which were illegible. And this process itself has caused delays in referrals which had to wait until I finally was able to find (and then get an appointment with) my new PCP.
It's possible that these delays have been harmful to my medical care and health. Corporate Optum should be ashamed. Interestingly, today I received an e-mail from "OPTUM-Care" & their 'Follow My Health' .. Apparently this part of the corporation didn't 'get the memo' ? I'm no longer their patient !
