Afterwards, there was minable numbness.
The procedure was explained in detail including the drilling of the crown.

I’ve been a patient at Hillside Dental, formerly Wanless Dental, for about three years and have always had a great experience. Dr. Wanless and the entire staff are friendly, professional, and truly go above and beyond for their patients.

I also received Invisalign through their office, and the process has been splendid. They’ve taken the time to educate me on what I need to do to be successful with Invisalign. My hygienist also gave me a simple analogy that helped flossing finally make sense, and my oral hygiene has improved because of it.

After a terrible at Dental Image on Sahara I contacted this office on the referral of someone and they were excellent to deal with. After explaining my previous issue and the inability to get the X-rays that were taken at the previous office they performed new X-rays at no charge to me just to make sure everything was good and we were starting off correctly. Best dental care EVER! I was awakened to the most COLOSSAL toothache one night (right before a long weekend, of course) Called the office the next next morning. Mel was there and worked so hard to help me, making multiple phone calls and got a dentist to call in a course of antibiotics (blessed pain relief after 1st 3 doses) and scheduled an appointment for Monday morning. Dr. Wanlass has been my dentist for decades. He is the kindest, most gentle dentist I've ever had. Took care of everything toot sweet!

Although the staff is very kind and welcoming, I feel that the practice as a whole is only looking for money, and my fiance and I felt very taken advantage of.
My fiance and I were recommended to come here by his mother, who had previously had a great experience. My fiance had his appointment first, and at this appointment he was told he had horrific gum disease and his gums were essentially rotting off of his teeth. They created a treatment plan that would’ve cost several hundred dollars, including multiple cleanings and several additional products to use at home (we bought the mouthwash there and privately bought a toothbrush). He went through with the initial cleaning and laser treatment, but declined the rest. He still had to sign a form consenting to the treatment that he DID NOT consent to. He was also not made aware that the office was now out of network for his insurance. He is in his early 20s, and although needs to floss more, definitely did not need this level of intervention, as confirmed by a second opinion at my family’s usual dentist.
At my appointment, I was told I had no issues and needed a regular cleaning (as expected), but was told I would benefit from Invisalign AGAIN (I have already had it and am happy with my teeth) for upwards of $700. I declined, but was still told to sign a consent for treatment form, even though I did NOT consent.
Then, during my cleaning, the hygienist was so rough. It was the most painful cleaning I have gotten in my life. It was so painful, I needed to add on numbing treatment to get through the process, when I usually have no issues with pain, etc during cleanings as I floss regularly. (After the cleaning, I saw several wads of gauze FULL of blood, something completely unnecessary for the status of my gums and teeth.) During the cleaning, the hygienist also “found” a small infected area where I happen to have bit my cheek, and insisted upon adding a laser treatment on, along with a mouth guard to wear at night. I felt the night guard was unnecessary, but felt pressured to add it in order for my cheek/gum area to heal properly. The laser and the night guard ended up costing $425, as apparently my insurance didn’t cover one bit of it.
A week later, I returned to pick up the night guard, and the dental assistant had to alter the fit 4-5 different times as it wouldn’t even go onto my teeth at first. I left with the appliance still not seating perfectly, as I had to make other errands and was on a time crunch. After several nights attempting to sleep with it, and waking up with excruciating jaw pain, I returned to my usual family dentist. They told me the “infection” in my cheek was nonexistent and the mouth guard was causing harm to my already previously compromised jaw.
When checking out after picking up the appliance, I was told I had another appointment booked for December, which I did NOT SCHEDULE! I had them cancel it, but felt uncomfortable as there is a cancellation fee for appointments, and a faulty reminder system for appointments, so I knew I would’ve been charged if I had missed the appointment I didn’t even know about.
After the several interactions with this office, I can vouch that they seem to only be looking to add on upgrades/appliances to generate more money, even when unnecessary to the patient. The mouth wash being offered to each patient for $50 (of course insurance won’t cover), the fancy toothbrushes, etc, all made me feel like I was at a sale’s pitch instead of a dental office.. I also was extremely uncomfortable with having to sign the consent forms for treatment I did NOT consent to, and being told, “Oh no, this is just to say we went over it with you!”. I have contacted the office to get a refund for the mouth guard, as $375 for something I could buy at CVS for $10 as a broke college student is ridiculous. The staff was very kind, but there seems to be a more sinister money-grab going on behind the scenes.

I would always feel embarrassed or a bit uncomfortable with the other offices and their staff. At Wanlass Dental they make you feel so good and comfortable. Hands down for the Dentist. I got a procedure done by him and he did an amazing job. Samantha is AMAZING! She’s very detailed with her cleanings and her personality is a bonus. Front desk is so welcoming and quick with any questions or concerns. I highly recommend Wanlass Dental.

Dr. Wanlass is a great dentist. However, his practice has taken a nose dive. In the past, they charged a bit more than your insurance would pay, but not excessively, and I never minded paying a little extra because Dr. Wanlass is great and the hygienists were top notch. A couple years ago things started to change. His fees increased, they started having a high turnover of personnel, both office staff and hygienists. They also seem to be upselling unneeded procedures and not paying attention to our insurance's annual maximum. I ended up paying 100% out of pocket for most of my husband's last 2021 visit. Some of those 2021 procedures (root scaling) could've been postponed to the following year. There are definitely issues with their billing department. Some of my visits were submitted incorrectly three times before they got it right. One visit took them over a year to get submitted correctly, and that was after I called them to remind them to resubmit it. Apparently my insurance had closed it out because they never got the correct codes. It's now July 2023 and I have one claim from Dec. 2021 I'm still waiting for them to submit properly. I stopped going to Wanlass Dental in June 2022 and will never go back.

Turnover at this office seems out of control lately. Front desk is obviously not well versed in customer service and need additional training. I did not feel welcome during my visit. Will not be returning.

Hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. Dr. Wanlass and his team pay attention to detail. Each and every staff member is friendly and works hard to take care of their patient. Dr. Wanless spends time to do great job paying attention to every minor detail/defect that requires attention. I highly recommend him.

I and my daughter have been patients of Dr Wanlass for 15+ years. He and his staff are competent and courteous and friendly. I like that I am seen promptly when I have an appointment. I like that procedures and the need for procedures are explained. I like that I get to see Dr Wanlass quickly when I had an emergency. I like that they are constantly updating their procedures and equipment. They are “on the ball.”

PS Covid protection procedures are in place and are reasonable.

A great dental office. All the staff are very nice and helpful and doctor wanless is an extremely good dentist. All the techs and dental hygienists
are very gentle and extremely efficient. All the equipment is modern sterilized and up-to-date. I had to have a root canal and they sent me to a specialist where I felt absolutely no pain during the procedure. Then back to doctor wanless office for the rest of the work where once again I never felt any pain.

When you arrive, you will be greeted by the staff as you walk in the door. They are all extremely friendly and helpful. Dr. Wanlass is a great dentist and has been treating my family for over 30 years. We would never consider going anywhere else. Some years ago he didn't like the way a bridge he had installed looked so he replaced it at no charge to me.. I've been going to Dr Mike approximately 25+/- years and have never been unhappy with his work.

Dr Wanlass cares about his patients. He explains what you need to have done, gives different options and listens to any concerns. His presence is calming. Debbie is so amazing as she cleans my teeth. She is nice, funny and extremely informative and current in new techniques. She loves her job and it shows. Caroline and Sue in the front are friendly in person and on the phone. My front tooth was going grey. I consulted other dentists about it, and they told me that it was a natural thing and I would either need to dye the tooth or get a new one, but nothing else could be done. Before he even really looked in my mouth, Dr. Wanlass glanced at it and told me he thought it was the retainer (the permanent retainer behind my front two teeth). He removed the retainer. Turns out he was right-the seal had broken and underneath my tooth was rotting and it had almost reached the nerve. He filled it, and my tooth looks great again! If I hadn't seen him, I would've needed a root canal. Perfect service. The staff is wonderful in every way and they do an excellent job of making everything comfortable. Haven't met a person I didn't like at this office.
