My husband had a full knee replacement eight weeks ago. We could not have imagined a better experience or result. The office located in Summerlin and Henderson is highly trained. The staff there is courteous, well managed/trained and professional. Dr. Handcock, his Physicians Assistant, Dr Patel are attentive, thorough, knowledgeable and patient to explain the options and potential surgical procedure selected by the patient. What I found the most helpful is they present as a happy team enjoying what they do. This review may sound too positive… but this is truly how I feel. I am so grateful I found Desert Orthopedics for my schedule knee replacement.

I want to update my review to clarify my experience and remove any speculation about intent. My concerns are based solely on how my care was handled and how it felt from a patient perspective.

During my initial visit with Dr. Hancock, an X-ray was performed; however, the results were not discussed with me before I received a steroid injection. I was not given an explanation of what the imaging showed or how it informed the treatment decision. Unfortunately, I had an adverse reaction to the injection, which added to my concern.

What left me feeling uncertain was that despite reporting significant and worsening pain, no additional imaging was ordered. In the past, an X-ray did not detect my shoulder tear after my dislocation, and it was only identified through an MRI. My most recent MRI was from August 2024, and given my symptoms, I expected a discussion about whether updated imaging might be appropriate. That conversation never occurred.

Overall, I left feeling unheard and without a clear plan for addressing my pain. I understand that providers have different approaches to care, and others may have a better experience, but this was not what I expected from a specialist.

Patients get into their appointment pretty close to scheduled time. Staff is very friendly. Environment is very clean and waiting areas are patient friendly. This was my first experience at Desert Radiology and it was superb!

I would really like to give Desert Orthopedic Center a good review because everyone I encountered until Dr. Hancock entered the room was wonderful. Prior to Dr. Hancock entering the exam room, another gentleman came in to manipulate my knee and check strength, etc. This gentleman was thorough and also noticed I was having pain in my hip and let me know they could help with that also. Once the doctor came in, I explained the issues I was having and the experience I had with my other knee replacement. He let me know that because I had complications with my other knee he would not recommend a knee replacement. He also said “we are not like a PCP and if you want us to look at your hip, you will need to make another appointment.” I said OK (confusing since the gentleman who just left the room told me they could help with the hip and I fully expected to make another appointment). I told him I was looking for options for my knee which is bone-on-bone. He told me this appointment was over and that he would not treat me because we were not a good fit. He told me he had already given me my options (which he had not) and said he could have injected my knee with gel… I told him that I would like to have that done. He again said… this appointment is over, I will not treat you. So I left and ordered my medical records so I could have the X-rays to take to another surgeon. He had the nerve to document in my medical record that I had ended the appointment. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DOCTOR. He was arrogant and lied in my medical records.

Dr. Hancock should take the time to review a patients’ MRI report line by line instead of just jumping to a high level overview.

Especially when language is used on a MRI like: severe, extensive, bone infarcts, dead cells with no blood supply getting to that area.

To a doctor that is extremely familiar with reading the reports, it may not appear spots to them; however, that’s subjective to each human.

Patients rely on doctors to take the time to provide a THOROUGH examine.

Finally, if a Cortizone Injection is provided, the doctor should talk about any possible side effects, what the patient should expect etc.

Consider making a follow up call to the patient after any procedure is performed.

I had a severe Cortizone Flair the first 24 hours Ava had no idea what to do or what to expect.
I literally couldn’t walk or move my leg.
I had pain worst then when I arrived at my appointment yesterday.

I had to slide my butt up the steps of my home and hop around.

Even after I provided similar feedback after my first visit.
This second visit yielded the same.🥺 Thus why this time, I decided to post a public review.

I pray that Dr. Hancock takes my feedback and experience this time.

Just telling a 52 year old patient that’s in great shape that there is nothing they can do but manage the pain in knee injuries, severe arthritis etc for the rest of their life when there are Arthroscopic procedures etc. is not true.

Perhaps I don’t have the “right skin tone”.

I thought the goal when a person is being paid for a service, is to provide the best level of care and service at the customers request without jeopardizing the license of the doctor.

I was so impressed with Dr Hancock and his PA.
They explained everything that was wrong with my knee in detail where I could understand it.
My meniscus was torn off so scope surgery could’ve been done to repair it. But Dr. Hancock said that there’s lots of arthritis in my knees and my meniscus is worn even where it’s not torn so that kind of surgery probably wouldn’t give me very much relief. He said he could do a Cortizone injection and see me in six weeks. A lot of doctors would have just gone right for surgery to make the extra money. I honestly believe you can trust Dr. Hancock’s advice.

This was my first time visiting Dr Hancock office. My right hip has been bothering me and after an XRay and MRI I was referred to him. After meeting him, Dr Hancock is very knowledgeable and takes his time with explaining my options. He told me I was too young still for a hip replacement. He gave me other options like Physical therapy and a cortisone shot. My only complaint for me is that I have to go back over a month and a half to get the cortisone shot. Didn’t understand why it could not have been done on that visit as much pain as a patient is in.

Office location: Henderson. I accompanied my mother to be seen by Dr Hancock for fractured metatarsals. When we checked in, we were greeted with smiling front office staff. Looks like they were in a middle of their morning huddle but they attended to us right away. We like the fact that they are also current with technology for medical history updates with questionnaires on a tablet form. The system was seamless and no issues whatsoever. His back office staff were all efficient with time and explained what needs to happen next which alleviated my mother’s anxiety. My mother was pleased with Dr Hancock as he showed empathy, reviewed the X-rays with us and took his time to explain in layman’s terms. He even assessed her historical issue on her knee osteoarthritis and offered treatment if it’s still bothering her. It was a relief to know that we didn’t need to make a separate trip for that. As for cleanliness amidst Covid, the office is clean and has designated seats to promote physical distancing. Overall, it was a memorable and impressive experience.

From the time I entered the building, the staff was courteous and prompt to take care of me. This is my second positive experience with DOC. Dr. Hancock repaired my left meniscus two years ago and is now diagnosing issues in my right knee. It's the small things like the staff looking up your history so they know you. You don't feel like just a number. I have been around for a long time, and have experienced my share of injuries and ortho-related events. I reached Dr Hancock via an emergency referral and what a find! He is SOOO attentive, listens to concerns and lays out the options clearly, helping to create the best plan for an optimal outcome. I required shots into my elbow, as a start, and even that experience was comfortable compared to some of my prior experiences with others. I ruptured my distal bicep tendon and opted to have it repaired. Dr. Hankcock was thorough in his explanation of the injury and my options. He did a fantastic job with the repair. I’m nine weeks post surgery and back to full ROM. Incision area is healing up nicely. It’s funny how many comments I’ve received on how straight and clean it looked.

I fractured my femur and luckily Dr. Hancock was on call at the hospital I went to for help. He put in a titanium rod and nails to repair my bone and it is now five months later and I'm 90% back to my normal kicking a** ways which is a pretty amazing recovery for a 68 year old woman! I had a minor meniscus surgery from some other doctor in this practice and it's turned out to be a major cluster Doctor hanconk looked at it and basically told me I needed physical therapy he didn't address the severe swelling in my foot and leg he didn't address how extremely large and painful the Baker cyst that was dormant in my knee before the minor surgery. Or how it is severely painful even to touch where the cyst is on the back of my knee. There's still fluid at my knee and it's painful even just to tap on my knee I'm severely disappointed in his assessment. Almost every night before I go to bed my foot looks like these photos. When sleeping which I can't because it's so painful overnight my foot is elevated and the swelling goes down a bit but not to normal is this normal after meniscus surgery ? Especially 5 weeks after. NO........

I had pain in my shoulder for several months and went to see an orthopedic specialist. He took an x-ray and couldn’t find anything, gave me a steroid shot, and suggested therapy. Recommending therapy before knowing what the problem was seem to be a dangerous solution. I could have had a tear and therapy might have made it worse. I then went to Dr. Hancock who looked at the x-rays, explained what he thought might be the problem, and suggested an MRI. If there was a tear, the MRI would show it; if not, then I would definitely go with therapy. Dr. Hancock took the time to discuss solutions and why and gave me such relief with his concern in his knowledge. I look forward to getting my shoulder fixed, with his help.

Very polite and confident but zero “0” bedside manner when treating a senior citizen. I understand being thorough with conducting a physical exam to see the extent of injury but causing excruciating pain is not listening to the patient. Forcing a senior patient to push beyond their limit and physically handling them like a piece of meat. Senior citizens are fragile not athletes. You need to be considerate to the population you are treating.

You need to have patience when dealing with a senior. Time is valuable and if the patient waited on the physician for a considerable amount of time, not rushing the appointment would be respectful. Taking into consideration for the patient also includes the patient’s ability and desires, not quickly throwing them into physical therapy but talking about options and developing a realistic treatment plan.

Would not recommend this physician if the patient is a senior citizen or if you’re looking for a physician to take your pain into consideration.
