This was my first appointment to establish care. I drove 33 miles across Las Vegas to make this appointment on time, only to be met with the most unprofessional and disrespectful behavior I have ever experienced from a medical provider.

Upon arriving, I made a very reasonable request for a privacy accommodation. The exam room had no curtain or barrier, and the door opened directly into a main hallway where other patients and staff were constantly walking by. I asked the nurse if I could wait to undress until the doctor actually arrived to ensure my privacy. The nurse was professional and told me it was no problem.

However, the moment Dr. Bettencourt walked in—less than a minute later—she began scolding me. She was immediately impatient, sarcastic, and hostile because I wasn’t already undressed. I had been in the room for less than 15 seconds when she started complaining that I was "wasting her time and not already being undressed, she doesn't tolerate this" When I tried to explain my privacy concerns and that the nurse had already cleared this, she was dismissive, flicking her hand at me and telling me to "hurry up."

When I told her that "I was confused whether she is being sarcastic or just rude and I do not tolerate being treated with disrespect while paying for services", she didn't apologize or try to understand; she simply told me to go find another doctor and terminated the appointment on the spot. I was beyond shocked. This happened in under 30 seconds of meeting her.

The most concerning part of this entire experience was when I spoke to the facility manager. After explaining the situation, some of the staff admitted to me that "this isn't the first time this has happened" with this specific doctor. I can only assume this won't be the last.

If you value your privacy, your dignity, or your time, do not see Dr. Bettencourt. She treats patients like an inconvenience rather than a person paying for a medical service. A complete waste of a day and a total lack of professional ethics. Utterly shocking anyone would employ this person.

This doctor deserves zero stars. She excised a mole and it got inflamed. I called her office 3 times for help but they never called me back. After couple months aside having a terrible scar, I realized they didn’t remove all the stitches, so I had to remove with a home tool. I still have one stitch underneath my skin like showing in the pictures.
Also, the biller overcharged for the procedures (that we pay upfront before the claim is processed), and it took 7 months and a lot of phone calls for them to return my money (almost $300)!!!!
She’s almost never at the office. They never call you back to say that you’ll be seeing by the PA when you have an appointment with her. It seems to be on purpose so you don’t have a choice.
The last time they did it to me, I was scheduled for a mole shaving and they sent to a lab that is not a provider. I got an EOB statement of $404!!!!
I had to appeal and they finally voided it but still overcharged the whole thing.
THIS DOCTOR IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY!!!! She made me sick!

I had scheduled an appointment in September 2023 to consult with Dr. Bettencourt because I had noticed a painful lump in my left thumb. I suspected it could have been an embedded splinter or cyst. However, the doctor immediately dismissed my concerns, stating that she couldn't feel anything and insinuating that it was all in my head. I left the appointment thinking that maybe it was just a deep bruise and would eventually resolve on its own.

Eight months later, the lump was still there and causing discomfort. At this point, I was certain that my concerns were valid, so I sought an appointment with an orthopedic hand surgeon. Unlike Dr. Bettencourt, the hand surgeon attentively listened to me, asked pertinent questions, and suggested an MRI to get to the root of the issue. As it turns out, I had a large cell tumor of the tendon sheath in my thumb. It was finally removed nearly a year after my initial appointment with Dr. Bettencourt. Thankfully, the tumor was benign, but it could have been addressed much sooner if I hadn't been dismissed.

I believe Dr. Bettencourt could have at least referred me for an ultrasound or to another specialist, even if her initial impression was that it was nothing. I was deeply disappointed with her dismissal of my symptoms. While I have had positive experiences with other care providers at Thomas Dermatology, my encounter with Dr. Bettencourt was disheartening. I'm sure she is a competent doctor, but her immediate inclination to dismiss my symptoms has left me feeling unable to trust her. If I ever need to see a dermatology surgeon in the future, I will be seeking care from a different doctor.

Pleased with my follow-up visit today with Dr. Bettencourt to learn there was no sign of the pre-cancers that were seen and treated back in April. The reception area was busy and I was told they were running a little behind even though I was called back to an exam room within 10-15 minutes. Dr. Bettencourt examined areas treated at my previous visit and checked a new area of concern which turned out to be another pre-cancer. She treated area and we were finished. Surprised to be in & out within 30 minutes with my next annual appointment scheduled. Don’t hesitate to schedule your appointment with this office. They are a very efficient, helpful & professional dermatology group that I can highly recommend.

Love the efficiency of the office and how little time is spent waiting, either in the lobby or the exam room. Such a nice change from a normal Drs. office visit where you can just plan on getting seen 30 - 45 minutes after your scheduled appointment time. Staff is great and check out is just as smooth as the rest of the operation.

My appointment on 16 Nov 2022 was at 1:15pm. I checked in at the front desk apprx 1:00pm. I was told to wait at the lobby until called. I was not seen until 2:10pm after I asked a couple of times for the receptionist to find out what's going on. I could have been informed better and asked if I would like to reschedule instead of just making me wait there. I have a possible cancerous mole on my face. I would have just left if not for this. I will never come back to this place!

I really wanted to like this office, I really did. The PA was great and took great care of me(the only reason this doesn't have 1 star) but the office staff seem like they must hate their job. I can't tell you how many times I called and left a message (because no one ever answers the phone) only to call back days or a week later because no one has gotten back to me. My medication ran out twice and never had refills apparently. Getting this info to my pharmacy would take weeks because. I finally gave up and found a new doctor. I just got a call today confirming an appointment I left a message to cancel. Not surprised. I called and cancelled again, thankful I was actually able to speak to a real person.

Staff was great but my appt was at 8:15, I wasn't called back to an exam room until 9 where I was told to undress and wait under paper garments until the doc came in. That wasn't for another 30 minutes. I was so cold that I put some clothes back on until she came in. Very friendly but I don't know if I'll be back because by the time I checked out it was almost 10:30. I just can't justify over 2hrs for a derm appt.

A kind physician's assistant asked me if I would permit a student to shadow Dr. Bettencourt during my appointment. After some thought, I refused with assurances from the PA that it was totally up to me. My reasons for the refusal are no one's business but my own. When Dr. Bettencourt entered my examination room with the student in tow, I was confused. Her nurse quickly checked my chart and removed the student. Once my examination was underway, Dr. Bettencourt strong armed me into having the student back in the room. "He needs to learn," was her justification for disrespecting my wishes. While her student was nice and nonthreatening, he should not have been in the room. I've seen Dr. Bettencourt in the past and this was the first interaction where I felt my input and comfort had no value whatsoever. I will think very carefully before scheduling another visit.

I recently dealt with my first and hopefully only bout of skin cancer. Everyone from the front office staff, to the assistants and the doctors were simply amazing! Every single person I encountered was incredibly kind and compassionate and really helped me through this fearful time. I highly recommend Advanced Dermatology!

Dr. Bettencourt was my husband’s dermatologist. He referred her to many people because he was always pleased with her care. I had a skin issue and went to see her myself. The doctor identified my problem right away and then I didn’t see her for a few years. I did refer to friends and family because I was so pleased with my experience with the doctor. Next time I saw her I had a serious problem with my skin. It turned out to be a skin problem due to another illness. Dr. Bettencourt was able to get me into a specialist and I now see both doctors. Dr. Bettencourt helped me to get my medication approved took time to answer my questions and enabled me to see another excellent doctor. Suffice it to say, I am grateful for Dr. Bettencourt.

Dr. Bettencourt was referred to me by my Insurance. The person I talked
to when I made my appointment was very unprofessional. She took
all my info. then scheduled me as soon as she could, which was about
3 months.?? They confirmed my app.2 times since then. Went today
and checked in and told they would be right with me. 35 Min. later, they called me up and asked for my I.D. and Insurance, And then was told that they don't take my Insurance. Went home and called my Insurance and they told me that they do take my Ins .Waited on the line while they tried to call them, but nobody would answer the phone. Never again.

This is the WORST office I have been to. Had an appointment they came and got me with the wheelchair and I had an 11:30 app't and they left me sitting in that wheelchair with no foot pads so feet hanging in midair for an hour. Finally got called and put into a room where they made me sit for another 1/2 hr in freezing temperature. Finally heard someone outside the door say "she already waited in the waiting room for 1 hr and the other voice said a little longer won't hurt".
What a way to run an office and I suggest you think more than once before you ever go there or recommend this ignorant office to anyone.

It took over 4 hours for Mohs surgery. This is understandable. The problem was that the surgery and waiting rooms were VERY COLD. I understand lower temperatures to control infection and for the doctors and staff in multiple layers of clothing. But you could have warned the patients to wear warm clothing. There were numerous email and text messages before the surgery. I needed a warning to wear heavy trousers and a jacket. I am obviously not the only one with this issue. There are multiple signs in the waiting room to prevent changes with the thermostat.

If you enjoy a "cattle call" and being overcharged and rushed into surgery please use the services of Advanced Dermatology! I had the pleasure of having two appointments in February 2018 with this Group! I was seen by Brittny Call Ahrendes and she was pleasant and informative. But and there always is a but... she was steering me towards a surgery that for some crazy reason I could not get a price on. My insurance would pay 80%, but of what amount?
When I left my first appointment it cost me $207.45 and I have insurance that would have covered appointment ( I donot have co-pays)! Their accounting Dept, in Orlando FL., never billed my insurance company for this appointment and now I cannot get reimbursed by my insurance. But the second appointment to get the results of my biopsy cost me $71.97. Upon the shock of this amount I asked the woman, who was asking me for this money, is this covering my deductible and she sharply responded I don't know you have to ask your insurance company! This Group did send in a claim for this appointment to insurance company! Bravo! Creative accounting! Now can you see why I severed my ties with this Group. Out $279.42 but WHEW I am so happy they could've bankrupted me!

Dr. Bettancourt was curt and spent more time talking to her intern and nurse than us, took a biopsy, and then left the room without saying a word. This after making my spouse strip and then the doctor hastily removing the only cover they provided with both the intern and nurse present. Worst experience with a doctor, ever. The office was nearly empty when I arrived and now I know why. After I completed their survey, the office manager called to try to get me to try their P.A. instead. Go elsewhere. I found Dr. Thomas Dermatology to be everything I was looking for.

I feel that she just didn’t like me. She gouged out a darkened area on my face. It was located in the middle of my face. Her purpose was ostensibly to check for cancer. It was just a sun spot. No cancer. Other dermatologists upon seeing the mess she left me with told me there was no excuse for what she did. There were any number of ways to check the darkened area without gouging a deep hole into my face! Bettencourt didn’t even properly close the injury afterwards. There was no need to do what she did.

I went to see Bettencourt for a follow-up on a procedure she had done. Before my appointment I contact Aetna, my insurance. They told me that her office never claimed my procedure nor reported that I paid $400 out of pocket. When I got to her office I asked if they were notifying Aetna of my procedure and they said no because it's a cosmetic procedure. Regardless of what it is, an insurance company should be notified, per Aetna. Her office kept insisting that I was asking them to commit fraud by reporting to my insurance. To make it worse, when I saw Bettencourt after an hour wait, she refused to talk about it and aggressively blew up when I asked for a referral to a dermatologist that would report all procedures done to an insurance company. Bettencourt started to insult me and told me to never come back. When I left I called Aetna and they were shocked by my story and called her office to demand them to revise the claim and report everything that was done. Now her office is revising the claim and resubmitting to Aetna. I'm still shocked from this experience; how can an office accuse you of committing fraud by simply asking them to report ALL my medical history. Be aware of this office, they like to decide for themselves what they should or shouldn't claim to the insurance companies.

I have never gotten into an actual argument with a doctor before and I have usually become even friends with my physicians, but Dr Bettencourt is a rude and insulting woman...who took less than a few minutes to do an overall body check for skin cancers. We moved here recently and I left my very highly regarded dermotologist behind who I have seen every six months for several years...including over eight surgeries for skin cancers. Dr. Bettencourt couldnt be bothered instead suggested she could remove bumps on my face at a cost of $325 and then really stressed how I should buy her monthly skin cream. When I asked her questions she would snap back angrily and I finally said I was shocked by her attitude...she said she acted that way hecause she was Italian. I ssid my family was half Italian and that none of them were insulting and rude. Her office staff tried to apologize for her and said they have just learned to avoid her as much as they can.

Terrible experience, I had to change my appointment to have my stiches removed, they were unable to get me in to the following week, so they will be in 3 weeks now. Also she is not very thorough, I need I full skin check yearly due to another medication I did call and ask if she had experience in this, the answer was yes, it is clear that she did not. she did not do any of the thing my neurologist said she should be looking at.

I had an appointment set up for 3/14 at 12, I was also contacted to remind me of my appointment the day before. I get there and they do not have me scheduled at all and the Dr. Miriam Bettencourt left at 11 for the day. When I was referred here I looked them up and saw the place was rated 2 stars and lots of complaints, now i know why. I just walked out when they tried to RESCHEDULE me. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Doctor say we experiment the medication on patient and see if it works for you otherwise you have bear the consequences and we will prescribe you something to try.

I was million times better before I visited this dermatologist. They are so rude and just want to rip you off every way they can. (They Write you medication and ask to buy from them and if doesn't suit and you used only for once, they won't take it back at all and tell you so rudely that it's your problem not our even when they prescribe something that's horrible for you.I lost $75 for just one tube.

Please please don't ever go to them if you care about your skin or body even a little.

This is the worst I have ever seen in my life.

Went in to have a spot on my hand looked at, to see if it might be skin cancer. While there, Dr. Bettencourt said that she also wanted to biopsy "that ugly brown spot on my face"! I never thought the small tan-colored sun spot was ugly... Anyway, she then tells me to undress. I asked for a gown, and she said, "We don't need that; we're all girls here". So I undressed in front of her and her nurse, which was most uncomfortable. Next, she tells me to schedule an appointment to (and I quote again) "scrape a few cells" from my face and hand, for the biopsy. When I returned a week later, I was taken into a room, and left there. When Dr. Bettencourt finally arrived, she started the procedure without even cleaning make-up off my face or sterilizing the hand or face before she cut! And, the "scrape a few cells" turned out to be a deep cut, followed by cauterization to stop the bleeding! I now have two horrible scars, and the "ugly brown spot" on my face was just a sun spot, as I thought. The scar, however is seriously ugly, much bigger, and deep purple after 6 months. It is also raised and very tender still. I would NEVER, NEVER return to this office again!

Dr. Bettencourt is, hands down, the best dermatologist in the city. I have seen her for everything from rashes to mole checks (which I think everyone with our sun should have). She is brilliant, and can literally diagnose you with a glance. She is also a Mohs surgeon, which means that she has the highest training that exists for skin cancer. She has removed precancerous moles for me with minimal scarring. My daughters have seen her for acne, which completely cleared up under her treatment. Moreover, she is kind and caring and takes as much time with you as you need. Her office is well-run, and her staff is pleasant and professional. Dr. Bettencourt is the best!

Terrible!!! I had many dermatologists to choose from - my mistake! I chose Bettencourt! First they told me I needed a referral- meaning I had to go to my primary first. Then when I get to Bettencourt was told I DID NOT need a referral! Time & money wasted at my primary! Then still sitting in a FULL waiting room at Bettencourt 50 minutes after appointment time! I have many other choices - my time is as important at Bettencourts!

Doctor is OK BUT wait times are the epitome of mismanagement, disrespect, and arrogance. Moreover, u will be sent on endless loop to get path results, schedule following path results, get final path results. They will apologize and blame all "mistakes" on their Florida office, but nothing gets better.
