Dr. Koide was very thoughtful om my first two visits.
On my followup visit this week I thought he was very cavalier & dismissive.
He even yawned twice and said he could not remember what he did in May when he performed a Watchman procedure on 5.20.26. I would think that Dr. Koide would have reviewed my file before coming in to talk to me.
My procedure was coded incorrectly stating that I was in the hospital for 21 days instead of 1/2 day.
Dr. Koide did prepare a note to clear up the clerical error.

Doctor is great but I have been having lots of problems with the office.

I have been trying to get an incapacity letter issued by the office for weeks now. It is nearly impossible to get proper help.

You call the number and ask for a specific person that was previously helping you. They won’t even let you speak to the person directly and they play messenger and try to leave a message for that person. The person never gets the request and then no one ever returns your call to help with the request.

You have to call back over and over without any progress.

Recently I tried to call the office number and no one ever picks up and it asks you to leave a message,

Edited to add: their response to this review was redundant. I contacted them as suggested and they never responded. This doctor is clearly threatened by an informed patient. Dr Koide needs to educate himself on Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and the 13 types. Also hEDS (Hypermobile type) is NOT rare. It’s estimated to affect 1 in 500 (1 in 3 women are Hypermobile) But its 12 other subtypes are rare and extremely rare. The EDS society has a ton of education courses in their Echo program. EDS is not new or trendy. It’s just now starting to get the attention it deserves. It was first mentioned in 400 BCE by Hippocrates. But it is the most neglected condition in medical history.

Original review: I was referred to an electrophysiologist re: my PCP’s concerns that I had Lown Ganong Levine syndrome and that it may be aggravating the symptoms I already have due to POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome).

Here’s how the conversation went:

Me (in the middle of giving a brief summary of my medical history): … and I have hEDS…

Dr (interrupts me mid sentence): oh what makes you think you have that?

Me: well, I was diagnosed by a specialist in Phoenix who is also treating me for POTS…

Dr (interrupts me again): show me what makes you think you have EDS. Can you stand and touch the floor with your palms?

Me: yes but if I do that I’m going to face plant and possibly pass out due to the aforementioned POTS

Then he proceeds to force me to show him what my joints do aka the signs of EDS. No doctor should ever insist I overextend my joints just to prove a diagnosis that I already have. I wasn’t even there to see him for EDS OR POTS.

Then I asked if the LGL is the possibility that I was hospitalized after my tilt table test. I stated that “everyone” who’s seen the TTT results said it’s positive for POTS but not typical. He didn’t answer the question and said “who’s everyone?” I listed every doctor (more than 3 have said my results weren’t typical). As soon as I mentioned my neurologist he interrupted me again, saying the neurologist doesn’t know anything. Funny because this “neurologist” has 3 board certifications (he not just a neurologist) and has been treating POTS patients for over 25 years and used to work for the Mayo Clinic before opening his own clinic. Anyway, again Dr Koide didn’t even answer my questions or discuss my concerns and prescribed me a beta blocker 🙄

The only complaint I have is I have a pacemaker and if I am experiencing a change trying to get through your office is impossible ! Waiting for up to 72 hours is rediculous and going to the ER is drastic when what you’re feeling doesn’t warrant it ! I was dissatisfied with the proposed treatment options that my cardiologist offered me to treat my Afib. I decided to do my own research and discovered Dr. Koide; he is a pioneer in the procedure of pulse field ablation. After educating myself regarding this modality, I thought that this was the best treatment option and made an appointment with Dr. Koide. He was everything that I anticipated, and more - matter-of-fact, supremely knowledgeable, and eager to provide resolution to a condition was severely negatively impacting my life. His bold statement of “most cardiologists don’t know how to treat Afib” was music to my ears (I was in total agreement)- I booked an ablation for three weeks later. Upon waking up in the recovery room I noted that my HR was 73; I gad been suffering from persistent afib for two years; my HR averaged 120-130 all of the time. I was know “normal” - without having to wait for y 4month “blanking period”. No more breathlessness- no more dread of an impending stroke. I am very physically active- Dr. Koide has given me my life back- and I will be forever grateful for that….. and, he has a great sense of humor! I have already referred three friends to him for treatment of their own cardiac dysfunction and am eager to have them reclaim their lives at the skilled hands of Dr. Koide.

My procedure was re scheduled twice. After the rescheduled appointments (3rd procedure date), Dr Koide did not meet with me pre or post procedure. I had to call his office and schedule a meeting to go over the results of my procedure. I have used other Drs in his practice and they met me pre and post procedure. They explained what happened. I think the practice is good but I am not impressed by Dr Koide bed side manner. Hopefully he is a good Dr and fixed my issue. But he has zero communication skills and cancels your procedures multiple times. Good thing I did not have a stroke while waiting to get my procedure.

It is not everyday that you visit a cardiologist. In fact, this was my first visit. The office was well situated and easy to find. The office was clean and well maintained. Dr Koide sat and listened to me. I never felt rushed, and I had a lot to say. He understood and made sure all of my fears were acknowledged and made me feel better. Shortly after that he placed a biventrical implant, I was in and out the same day. My recovery was quick and painless. By him taking the time to listen he’s easily given me another 20 or more years to be around for my family.
