I recently had a left hip replacement by Dr. Fontes.
I also had the same surgery 2-4 years ago and to compare the two I have to say what Dr.Fontes Dr, did was a walk in the park. I was a runner for 30 years and beat myself up quite a bit. I am 87 years of age and in exceptional shape compared to most even over 60.
Post-surgery I never had a twinge, pinch, sharp pain or discomfort of any kind. In two weeks time I never even knew I had had a procedure. I felt like a new man. Also, Dr. Fontes didn't prescribe PT. My last surgery I had to endure 3 months of PT. He only prescribes "Walking" and some exercises with my Walker. I am a very critical regarding any services I receive and I say what comes to my mind. Also, his staff is very competent and available if a patient finds it necessary to ask questions or have an issue. I felt so good I went a little overboard in my activities but that has passed.
I have never been to a doctor that took such a personal interest in his patients. If I could give him a 10 star rating I would definitely do so,.

Made an appointment with a surgeon to get a knee surgery. Seems great confident got a quick appointment. Trouble is he is a surgeon who has moved away from surgery. So I had to make another appointment with a different surgeon. Which should be somewhere so I can just make an appointment with the one who can do the surgery the first time.

Dr Fontes is absolutely amazing! There’s no words that can express the gratitude I have for this man! He is a true Doctor sent by God!!. He’s the only doctor that saw My Wife and was more than confident to take the screws out of her ankle and take the metal out, when every doctor we saw, wouldn’t even think about it.
Also, she needs a hip replacement at the age of 43 (in Feb) due to a car accident in 2011, and he is/was the only Doc’ to utter doing it, as it’s severe, stage 3; the highest…giving her the quality of life and he was the only doctor with true confidence said she needs it.
As soon as he came in The room. He gave us a quick hello introduce himself and got right down to business. We have no doubt in our minds that he is going to heal My Wife completely, God is using those hands & mind of his. Dr Fontes is gentle in examination, very knowledgeable and kind! The office is big, Very busy and the Office Staff don't seem able to handle the huge volume of customers/patients they get. Waited painfully for 5 months to get my appointment and received conflicting arrival and requirement info during the wait, causing confusion and stress.
Seems to be a good training opportunity for office staff, and the medical staff are great, just so busy.

Beautiful beautiful establishment first off. I’ve never seen a place like this and it is absolutely stunning. The staff was very sweet except for the nurse who questioned me before the Dr. came in to see me, oh was she rude, surely and customer service is terrible. However the check in and check out staff, the registration staff, X-ray staff, and the Drs. assistant when he came in were all so sweet, caring and made me feel so comfortable. Dr Fontes was amazing to say the least. He spoke well, was nice and kind, explained everything to the T. An exceptional man/person. Today I came to my appointment with Dr. Fontes scheduled at 4pm only to find out I need to reschedule due to an emergency surgery. This is the second time this has happened to me within 2 months just for a consultation. I think this is completely ridiculous and inconvenient not only for myself but for anyone. I have lupus and Avascular Necrosis and for this to be the 2nd time I've showed up for an appointment to be told that I need to reschedule is mind-boggling. Tne first appointment scheduled last month was canceled due to an emergency. That's completely understandable but to have it happen twice is just plain unprofessional. I was met by two receptionists telling me they called but I never received any calls. Upon checking my phone all I saw was the 2 texts messages I received asking for me to confirm my appointment for today. Now why couldn't anyone have texted me not to come or to reschedule then rather than having me to confirm an appointment that you're just going to ask me to reschedule when I get there. This place IS RIDICULOUS and the staff must not be knowledgeable how to stay on top of their appointments let alone checking in with the patient. I'm SUPER DISAPPOINTED with this behavior and I haven't even been able to get any help from the situation so what does that tell you??? ...seemed like the staff cared more about having each other's backs in a wrongdoing rather than giving the patient the care they need.

I saw Dr Fontes for knee pain and he is very knowledgeable/professional on my condition. With my xray result, he really took the time to explain my condition, treatment options and answer all my questions in details. After I decided to have knee replacement, he ordered different imaging to make sure I have the most suitable/least invasive surgery and prosthesis. I was able to walk with a walker the day of surgery and with physical therapy able to walk without assistive device at home/ have good range of motion week 3. New to this doctor's office. Was seen for the first time yesterday.. So far I'm unimpressed. I have to go back for an MRI. So what will happen remains to be seen. I can only hope there is an answer to my problem.
Plus the medicine I was given does not agree with me. So I'm still in pain and can't even make a full day at work. But I guess that doesn't matter because nobody asked me what type of work I do. Also was given no instructions on what to do with my leg until I get my MRI. So I guess I will just make it worse. I also don't like being told about how my pain is. I know how my pain is. I've been working in the medical field for 30+ years. So if I'm at any doctor's office, there is a problem.
So now I'll just be miserable until something is done.
Update:
Unfortunately I won't be back to follow up. After prescribing a medication that didn't agree with me, I called to let them know that I couldn't take it. They called me back and said they don't prescribe medications unless you've had surgery. Yet the doctor there prescribed a medication. There are all kinds of medications. I only asked for something different.
Make it make sense please.

My husband had a bad accident and while we had the first surgery the Dr just passed us off to his PA who was very rough and had a bad chair side manner asked to be seen by the Dr and they still put my husband with the PA and then after 4 months my husband was laid off due to not being able to walk to go to work and so we had to start the whole process of finding a new insurance and due to being only one working I can only afford a HMO INS so now I can barely get anyone at the office to answer my calls and have to start the whole process over ! He should have done both surgeries but doesn’t seem to care at all

I am a snowbird here in Las Vegas for the winter. I was so worried when my knee suddenly started giving me some really bad pain. I don't have a Dr here & was concerned as to what to do. I called the office at 10 am & was seeing Dr Fontes by 1 pm. He explained my problem & spent time answering all my questions. He was friendly & so easy to talk to. He gave me a steroid shot in my knee & it was so painless ,I didn't know he had already done it. I am so pleased that I made an appointment to have the other knee in a week.

I first met Dr. Fontes over a decade ago while I was working in a Henderson, Nevada Emergency Department and I had the occasions to call him on Orthopaedic cases requiring surgery when he was the on-call Orthopaedic Surgeon that day. He was always pleasant to deal with, and I seem to remember that he always had a smile when he arrived in the ED for those cases requiring Emergent Surgery. He was always prompt and professional in my encounters with him. Now that I was a retired Emergency Physician, when I developed severe left hip pain 4 years ago due to my age and degenerative arthritis, I looked at the credentials of the Desert Orthopaedic surgeons on their web site, and when I saw that Dr. Fontes was the very first surgeon to perform Anterior Hip Replacements in the Vegas Valley, I did not look any further. He performed a Total Anterior Left Hip Arthroplasty 4 years ago and I was walking over a mile several times a week approximately 4 weeks after surgery with no pain then, and no pain over the last 4 years. When my right hip began degenerating earlier this year, I saw Dr. Fontes again and the X-rays confirmed that I needed the right hip replaced as well. 22 days ago, Dr. Fontes performed a total Right Hip at the Parkway Surgical Center in Henderson, and I was able to walk out with a walker and go home in a matter of hours instead of my overnight hospital stay 4 years ago. 2 hours after getting home I was able to fold up the walker and put it back into storage and just use a hiking stick which I have no longer needed for the last week now. I did not even take any of the pain pills that were prescribed if needed. The Surgical Center and home discharge turned out to be far superior to my overnight hospital experience 4 years ago. At home, I was able to get up every hour and walk to the freezer for an ice pack which was key in reducing pain and swelling during the first 3 days post-op. At the hospital 4 years ago, the night nurses were stretched thin, and I hardly remember them getting me frequent ice packs. With this hip surgery, the pain, swelling, and bruising was almost non-existent compared to my left hip surgery 4 years ago. Yesterday was day 21 post-op and I drove the entire 660 miles from Nevada to our Wyoming home without any pain or driving impairment, I just had to use my left arm to help lift my right leg into the vehicle so as not to have any pain! Today was day 22 post-op and I drove my dogs out to a primitive BLM dirt road, and I walked just under a mile with a hiking stick while the dogs ran 3 or 4 miles. A little over a month ago I could only walk that same road around 300 yards before looking for a rock to sit on because of the pain and stiffness in my right hip. My dogs and I could not be happier with the expert care that Dr. Fontes and the Parkway Surgery Center provided to me. They gave me my life back!

What an excellent doctor. My hip replacement was totally pain free. The recuperation was straightforward and was explained in detail. There was great follow up every week to see how I was doing.
So naturally I returned when my opposite knee was giving me minor problems. Did the surgeon suggest surgery? Nope he said the discomfort didn’t warrant surgery and to take an otc pain killer.

I was referred to Desert orthopedic Center from my doctor and I went to see Dr. Roger Fontes. The facility was excellent, and the staff was very professional. dr. Fontes read my x-rays and MRI of my knee and discussed with me how to ease the pain. I would recommend the staff and this facility desert orthopedic center.

I am now six months post op for a hip replacement performed by Dr. Fontes.
All I can say is WOW. Everything has gone as he said it would, better in fact. I suffered for 10 years with hip pain. I have had 5 various knee surgeries all on the same side as my hip surgery. The hip replacement was easier in all ways. No pain from day one post op and I am back in the gym and going on 3-5 mile hikes. I feel like I did 10 years ago. Can't say enough about Dr. Fontes, his team and the DAA Procedure. Highly recommended.

I HAD SEEN DR. FONTES ON JUNE 30, 2021, FOR THE FIRST TIME. I WAS REFFERED TO HIM BY BACK SURGEON, DR DANIEL LEE. I WAS HAVING SOME HIP PAIN, NOT RELATED TO MY RECENT FEMUR SURGERY. X-RAYS WERE TAKEN, AND EVERYTHING WAS IN TACT, LOWER BACK, BOTH FEMURS. DR. FONTES HAD ME DO SPECIFIC VIEWS OF BOTH HIPS, AND MY HIPS ARE GOOD. I HAVE SOME BURCITUS IN BOTH HIPS. NO NEED FOR SURGERY. HE SUGGESTED, TO ICE AND USE VOLTAREN GEL, AND SOME PHYSICAL THERAPY. THEN, IF NEEDED, I CAN SEE HIS SPORTS MEDICINE ASSOCIATE, FOR AN CORTISONE INJECTION, OR ULTRASOUND. HE SAID, THIS WILL GET BETTER, AND CAN GO AWAY. VERY PLEASED WITH DR. FONTES, AS HE IS HONEST, AND GIVES YOU OPTIONS, AND TOOK THE TIME TO ANSWER ALL MY QUESTIONS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM, IF YOU'RE HAVING HIP ISSUES.
