This has to be one of the worst medical offices I have ever dealt with. It took me a month to get in to see my primary to get a referral then it took another two and a half months before my appointment. The week of my appointment a very rude person called from scheduling and told me they were going to cancel my appointment unless I got my referral in to them. My primary had faxed it over twice. So now this extremely rude person tells me I need it sent through a Curo portal. Like I'm supposed to know what that is? When I did ask what it was she was even ruder if that's possible. So I call my primary, they don't use that portal and they never have. I call orthopedics back. I'm told unless it gets sent through the portal they will cancel my appointment. What am I supposed to do now? My primary doesn't have the ability to send it through the portal. I was so upset at this point. Anyway the appointment ended up getting canceled because even though I had a valid referral they wouldn't see me because it didn't go through their precious portal. They also lied to me because this rude person also told me that my insurance would not pay for the visit unless the referral went through the portal. Not true. I called my insurance company and they said they could work with the clinic but the clinic unfortunately had no intention of working with my insurance. I'm in horrible pain, I have been since December and now I have to start all over again trying to find another orthopedic surgeon that will take a FAXED referral. I guess pain doesn't matter to health care workers anymore, it sure seems they don't care about their patients anymore.

All was very good however I forgot to get the cortisone or steroid shot that Doctor Fontes said he wanted me to get. When I went to the front desk and asked about it the receptionist said that since I did get it and I already left the room that I now had to wait til my next appointment in 6 weeks. I did not like that at all. I had been there for 3 hours and did not realize that I needed to ask them to give me the shot they said I needed. Now I have to wait six more weeks in pain. I don’t blame Fontes I really just don’t understand why they could not go ahead and let me go back and get the shot that they prescribed.

Dr. Fontes performed my left hip replacement in 2021, and I wished that I would have had it replaced sooner since it was such a relief from the pain and disability that I was experiencing then. It now functions without pain or stiffness. When my right hip started acting the same way a few months ago, I waited too long as before but finally saw Dr. Fontes and he recommends a total right hip replacement which I plan to do in the near future. Dr. Fontes addressed my left knee issue with me on August 29, 2025. He was very professional. He clearly explained to me with the aid of the xray of that knee that had just been taken at DOC by Victor, showing me that the cartilage had been worn away completely. He was honest about my options with surgery being the final one after all the other options were exhausted and I had lost considerable weight. Hopefully, losing the weight, using a knee compression brace, inflammation reduction medicine, and walking for exercise on gentler surfaces than concrete will be my solution. I had rotator cuff surgery and came back for my 3 month visit. I had an appointment with Dr. Fontes' assistant, Laura. However, I was notified that since I was 5 minutes late, due to being in Desert Orthopedics physical therapy (next door), she would not see me. This is the ultimate rudeness and extremely harsh way to treat patients. I was told there is a 15 minute grace period and that I was to see the medical assistant, Bren. This office medical team really needs to take a lesson in patient service.

I made the appt with Dr Fontes to have him diagnose the extreme pain in my right shoulder and neck. I was x-rayed quickly, Dr Fontes dscussed the x-rays with me, and we agreed to to administer an injection of cortisone. The pain has subsided 24 hrs later. I had a total knee replacement done by Dr. Fontes.

I had been seeing another Orthopaedic Surgeon but he left the area. He referred me to Dr. Fontes saying he would do a good job on my knee. Dr. Fontes did an "excellent" job on my knee. I could not be happier with the results.

Dr Roger Fontes is One of the BEST, Orthopedic specialist I have ever met. I have Osteoarthritis and he advised me to keep practicing Yoga, Pilates, Pool exercise and Strength. I at the time was 55yrs young, and active! Still worked as a Flight Attendant full time! I was only off from work 5 weeks! Amazing!!! My therapy was to walk further everyday! My hip for last 5yrs has been at 95%! What a success! Now, I had a fall at my daughters pool, and tore my Achilles’ tendon. Once again, I have a date in surgery on Wednesday, 22 May! He started speaking and there was a question to be asked during his speech, he rudely said to stop talking and to let him speak. During the entire visit he had a condensing tone, maybe since he is a surgeon and that there was no surgery on the horizon, he felt to demonstrate that this visit was a complete waste of time, even though there was other options that could be done to help with the issue. I had arrived at 2:00PM for my 2:05PM, scheduled appointment at the horizon ridge office, desert orthopedic center, for this doctor. Front desk clerk stated that the doctor declined to see me, because I did not arrive at 1:50, to get my insurance information and to get a picture of me, prior to be seen by this doctor. I reached out to the manager of the scheduling and she was also unaware of these rules, that apparently are this particular doctors own rules and not the desert orthopedic centers rules. First, let me say this Doctor is a blessing. I suffered a Bilateral Quadricep Tendon Rupture and was in a very difficult situation. I had a very difficult time with my situation and Dr. Fontes really did a lot to accommodate me and very me in for surgery. The sweetest, most caring doctor I have had and to find him when I did was the way it was destined to play out. Amazing team at surgery and took time to listen and comfort me going in. To be honest, I wish I could do something for him. I am 12 weeks post op and I not only walk. I can train legs in the gym. Roger Fontes, MD has did a great job on my left hip replacement 2 years ago I am looking forward for him to do my right hip replacement very knowledgeable and very much and what he does very professional he really knows how to take care of his patients

my hip replacement surgery/ recovery was smooth, once it actually happened. Had some issues with Dr. Fontes support staff i.e. cancelled scheduled appts without telling me. I would certainly choose Dr. Fontes if i require another hip replacement~ however for transparently you should be aware there could be some scheduling issues~
After my surgery i stayed overnight in the Parkway Surgical Recovery Center which Dr. Fontes told me about, and did tell me he was a co owner AND that my insurance would cover….well yes and no the fee for the 20 hour stay was $20,000.00! this is more than a C Section charges~ which after insurance i paid just under $600.00. This was certainly a SHOCK! and i did feel taken advantage of.
