I had an outstanding experience at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine and am incredibly grateful for the care I received. Sidney Nguyen and Ada Chan were amazing throughout the entire process. They were professional, compassionate, patient, and attentive, making a situation that could have been stressful feel much more comfortable.

Dealing with a painful dental infection and needing surgery can be intimidating, but they made sure I felt informed, comfortable, and well taken care of every step of the way. Their kindness, communication, and attention to detail really stood out, and I could tell they genuinely cared about their patients and the quality of their work.

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and I sincerely appreciate the time, effort, and care they put into helping me. They are a credit to UNLV’s School of Dental Medicine, and I hope they receive the recognition they deserve. I would absolutely recommend this program to anyone looking for quality dental care from people who genuinely care about their patients.

Thank you both for making a difficult experience so much easier. I’m truly grateful for the care I received!

I had my first appointment at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine today. The student assigned to me, Trevor Cox, was professional and was going through the required medical screening when my blood pressure came back elevated.

My concern was my interaction with the supervising dentist, Dr. Karen Hom. Her manner came across as sarcastic and condescending when discussing why I had not taken my blood pressure medication. When I later asked her to summarize the process for me so I could clearly understand what would happen next, rather than simply answering my question, she turned to the student and told him to summarize it for me.

I came to a teaching clinic fully expecting students to participate in my care and understanding that the process would take longer. What I did not expect was to feel talked down to by the supervising doctor when asking reasonable questions about my own treatment.

Patients should be able to ask for clarification without being made to feel uncomfortable or belittled. A little professionalism, patience, and respect goes a long way—especially in a teaching environment where the supervising dentist is also setting an example for future dentists.

The student was not the problem. My experience with the supervising dentist was.

Ruth was great. She is compassionate, kind, patient, respectful and has such a beautiful heart. She treated me with so much kindness today, and took time to make sure I was doing ok throughout the whole procedure. She’s such an amazing human being. Dr. Sullivan is so professional and knowledgeable, she guided the team through the process and made sure they did the best work possible. Thank you to all you ladies, you were absolutely amazing.

When you sign to agree to be a patient, you are at their will. I felt like they saw i had work that needed to be done but they took that weakness and exploited it and wanted to make me a lab rat. Forcing me to be susceptible and submit to whatever the instructors want their students to learn. Which is how I ended up at the school in the first place. My dentist that I had for 4 years was ignoring treatment that could have prevented issues that I'm currently having. They ignored signs for years until the problem got so bad I needed major work. I thought maybe going to this school would show me honest dentists but what i found is the students are being taught to be salesman, just like my dentist. How does a patient see a doctor for years and that patient never get healed? They only get worse. Dropping thousands of dollars for what the dentist promises is the best treatment but that treatment only makes things worse?? The instructor slipped up while explaining the plan to me telling me that pulling teeth would enable the bone to heal??? But just before that he told me the bone can't heal. So which is it? If it can't heal, what is pulling the tooth going to do? The only thing I can think of is giving your student practice and costing me money. No thanks. I'll pass. Dr Kang showed me that schools are not teaching techniques to help patients, they are teaching students techniques to milk money from patients. It's somewhat of a lesson in life. Being rich is a sign of how well you can take money from everyone else. If you need a degree in order to do it, go to dental school.

I would give zero stars if I could.
I went in on Tuesday after noon after noon like it said on the website. I get there at one and was rudely greeted by staff at the window. She then informed me they were at max for the day and told me to be there 730 am the next morning.
I show up at 730 and again greeted by the same employee who talked to me like she was already irritated asking me why they didn't put me in the system the day before mind you she was the person I talk too. She then opens the door and sends me to the er waiting room. There I filled out the paper work and gave them all my insurance Info. After that I asked if my tooth was going to be pulled today and her response was well clinic doesn't open till 9am and by 930am they will know if i will even be seeing. So I sat there and waited two hours.
Finally this student calls my name and takes me back. She asked my info. And medical past, she seemed overwhelmed as I do have many medical issues and medications. She was getting irritable and short with talking to me. Then the subject comes up of my drug use. I told her I was clean but I still struggle from time to time. That's where everything took a turn. You can see and hear the judgment in her voice.
Then she finally asked about my tooth I told her it's number 20 and it's not saleable as i have a dentist he just doesn't do extractions so I came here. She then very rudely asked me "well why don't you find a dentist to take it out", I told her thats why im here. She then felt my face because my tooth has an abcess under it. I explained i went to the er but they put me on antibiotics to clear the infection. She then finished with my medical history and my medication list and told me she was going to present it to the dr. As I sat in the chair waiting I could hear her talking to the dr. She told him all my history and her exact words to him was "oh she an addict and has too much medical problems (which i do but im medical compliand and medicamedication compliant ) the dr then said do you noy want to work on her?? Her response was no as he responded " well, find a reason to get rid of her"
I felt so discriminated, i wanted to cry. She comes back and says we have to do xrays. So we walked over to ex ray she said we were second in line 30 mins later we finally got x rays. We go back to the chair and she is telling me if they could save the tooth then they wont pull it. I told her it is not saveable. She said its up to the dr but there is test they have to do. So she did about 45 mins worth of test on my tooth to see if it was dead or not. She then pulled up my xray again and called over a different dr who loudly and bluntly told her the tooth can not be saved. at this point its already 1130am. I straight out ask her is she going to pull my tooth and she looked around and then ay the time and says oh no its getting late.. like whay? You had me doing all these test knowing daum well you were not going to pull it.
Then i asked when she is going to pull it and proceeds to tell me i have to make an appointment. Mind you while i was sitting in the chair everyone around me was getting there work done and it was too late for me i didnt understand.
Mind you im in pain my face is swollen and they are just dicking me around. She takes me upfront to make the appointmet where another rude staff seemed bothered to be there made me an appointment i asked for asap and they said we have nothing till next wednesday. And i asked her so are you going to give me pain meds for making me wait another week? She said no. Like really sending me home pain is insane to me. Then as she walks me out she tells me i shouldnt do drugs before my next appointment, then i was taken back by her statement because i had told her i hadnt used for this appointment so that wasnt an issue. She then just abruptly walked away.
The most embarassing situation i have ever been in. And i have to wait till wed. to get my tooth pulled... so please people stand up for yourself and ask everything up front.

Unlv school of dental did such an amazing job taking my wisdom teeth out that I felt comfortable taking my babies here with the concerns that I had for them. Dr. Sorenson did an amazing job walking me through everything they needed. He did an even better job reassuring my babies that everything was going to be quick and easy. Needed a ton of dental work done the depression I let my teeth get really bad. I ended up having to get all about 10 of my teeth pulled. They told me the process would take roughly 3 to 4 months and I would have dentures into partial on the bottom however it's been close to a year now and I still need a lot of work done. I am seriously thinking about using my insurance to pull the rest of my teeth and going to Mexico to get implant dentures both top and bottom. The thing about UNLV dental school is yes you are doing their best to learn. Your dedicated to what they're doing. Did you have empathy depending and debatable as well. It is about half the cost of going to a certified regular dental practice. However I got a switched people students in the middle of my process as well because my guy graduated and I got thrown in with a young lady who who is amazing in empathetic and really wants to learn the trade. That's exactly what this is though a trade. It's cheaper but it definitely has its drawbacks. If you have the money I would suggest just going to a regular dentist. It's not worth the time and effort it takes to get these people to stay on task.

I was a student here and the young lady who had my case was the worst person ever! I have been on call for 5 years don’t know when or what time I was available when called at 6:30am I would let her know right away I would not be making my appointment and it was always an issue with this girl! They put on my chart I could not return because of the implants I wanted which is definitely not the case. Unbelievable what people can do behind closed doors and trying to work with the students! Good luck to the rest of you maybe they will create lies about you as well!! I will have to go out of town to finish my dental work where I will be treated hopefully much better than I did here!

I’ve been going to dental schools on and off throughout my lifetime. I went to the UNLV dental clinic where I met Mark Perry and many other doctors, hygienist, and students who were part of my team.
The schools thoroughness is incomparable.
Mark is a gifted and talented Student/Dr. , whom I believe hopes to be specializing in aesthetics and let me tell you he is meticulous with his work.
I was so blessed to have found him. He gives such great attention to detail and nothing is left to question.
He also makes sure you understand everything that he’s doing and is so gentle. I’ve rarely felt any pain , Not even for a shot and I have very sensitive teeth.
I needed two front crowns and he matched my teeth perfectly! I am also going to be getting a bridge done and feel very confident that it will be done perfectly with Mark‘s skills and knowledge and the wonderful team at the UNLV dental clinic! Thank you to all of you who were part of my treatment plan! The two teeth are the ones in the picture the front tooth and the one next to it on the left. 🙏❤️🦷🪥

WARNING! STAY AWAY from this place. NO one cares what goes on here , it is all about the MONEY! They are horrible. All they want to do is dental extractions, cleaning and fillings other than than they don't want to do anything because they DON"T KNOW HOW TO DO ANYTHING ELSE! You will leave with a BAD job (dentures, root canals, etc.) that will cost you MORE than what you went in with! My family member has been coming here for more than 2 years and they have done absolutely NOTHING but cause more serious issues, financial hardship and depression. Some of the students are clueless/lazy as to what they are doing and some of the actual dentists are not volunteers they are getting PAID to be there and are the most unprofessional and rude people you'll meet (make sure you get their name so you don't end up in their office).
I witnessed other clients yelling that they will sue them for BAD work. This school needs to be investigated again like they were the last time they were on the news and were caught overpaying their admin/dentists who just sit around and collect the money and NOTHING more.

I came in with broken teeth that looked totally disgusting.I held alot of shame about the condition of my teeth so I didnt go to the dentist for years. I just walked around with the broken teeth out of fear of judgement. The students at this school were so understanding and so nice to me .It took everything in me not to break down and cry. I held YEARS of shame. They were so non judgemental and kind, the student doctors understood my fear of dentists and she comforted me the entire procedure. I would give 10 stars if I could. Thank you for your kindness and professionalism. The students and Dentists were superb. I'm coming back for implants.Dentists are DOCTORS!! Put some respect on their names.

UNLV School of Dental Medicine has a lovely pediatric dental.
My daughter’s dentist is Dr. Dern, she is amazing!
I appreciate her professional skills and passion for her job. She is full of vitality and humorous, and my daughter loves her very much and even looks forward to seeing her again (because she needs to undergo two treatments).
Dr. Dern really cares about the children and tried her best to make my daughter comfortable (even enjoyable) during the treatment.

The dental assistants are also very nice. They even make animals and flowers out of balloons for kids.

I sincerely thank everyone I met and hope this place gets better and better.

Be Careful Before Committing to UNLV Dental

I came in thinking I was getting affordable care with a payment option. Instead, I was given a temporary fix for a serious issue, then told I had to pay everything up front to finish the work — no payment plan like they suggested at first. Now I’m stuck waiting months with an unfinished root canal, not knowing what could go wrong in the meantime.

They don’t offer proper follow-up, don’t provide written aftercare, and once you’re in, they push you off unless you pay in full. It feels more like a trap than treatment. I trusted them because it’s a teaching school — but what I got was confusion, pain, and no help. Think twice before letting them touch your teeth.

🚨 Warning for Anyone Considering UNLV Dental:

They will mislead you just to get your money, then leave you with a half-finished tooth, no clear aftercare, and no timeline for when you’ll be treated again unless you pay in full. I was told there would be a payment plan — there isn’t. Now I’m stuck with an open root canal and in pain for months, while they “wait for the next semester.”

This isn’t just poor communication — it’s careless and unethical. Patients aren’t told the truth upfront, and once they get you in the chair, they switch up the expectations. Be very cautious before trusting this clinic with anything serious. You might walk out in worse shape than when you came in.

My current Dentist, a Prostodontist from one of the best schools in the country told me UNLV Dental Clinic has the "worst staff and instructors" of any school in the country. It's at the bottom of all dental schools just like our NV School System is 49 out of 50. UNLV Dental School is lowly ranked by all other well educated Dentists. The "Team Leader" was incompetent, she missed scheduled appointments and in particular missed the appointment during which she was suppose to review my ""Treatment Plan". The "Attending Dentist" refused to come over, He refused to consult with the Team Leader when she called out to him. Both were terminated shortly after I submitted a formal complaint to the Clark County Dental Society.
Avoid this place at all costs. Students and staff should be drug tested,.
The number of "stars" this dental clinic receives on its' Reviews amounts to a C+, not exactly "Graduate Level Work".

I have now taken both of my children to the peds Denistry UNLV has. I don’t usually leave reviews but I wanted to come here because they should get a lot more credit than they do. I have worked in healthcare for over 10 years and with my own health and children’s I have seen my fair share. If you want integrity I would come here. They are thorough in their treatment plan and explain the why’s and the pros and cons. They do what is necessary with the goal of what would be best for the patient. Their pocket book doesn’t drive them but applying their knowledge and learning does. I will continue to come here and leave the private practices alone.

I have had extremely mixed experiences with UNLV school of Dental Medicne ..
Their staff was kind enough during an "emergency extraction" yet were quick to pull teeth, in my humble opinion more than necessary & the asian doc was extremely cross w/ me for questioning him when in regards to my mouth & teeth.

Like too many dentists that dont show proper respect to others was actually sadistic with his methods and lack of empathy; In the end He/ thry tried to charge me additional for the "consult" to oull more than less.
People have to live with how u leave them, jaws become overworked and replacement teeth, etc are a rediculous cost in the US,
You All should do better by your patients-
then again rude, short, capitalists doc's who work at UNLV ready to retire, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

The students in training were kind and tried to look out for me but of course had trouble removing teeth.

I had to change my insurance to them to do the extraction then called to schedule a cleaning and they said to call in September (its 1st week of July now) to schedule a 3 step screening; just to see, "If" they can even see or treat me?

Lastly the woman that answered was extremely rude, hostile & short statement of the process!
I had a single question, let alone tried to better understand her crass, exasperated and absolutely inhumane responses from the beginning- I hope your treated better by medical professionals than you treat people over the phone! Unacceptable.
Note*
I brush 3 times a day and have a periodontal issue otherwise a clean mouth however UNLV, your system creates a lack of availability for people to see docs regularly and is horrid at best.
I've been fighting for regular cleanings for 20 years as an American, free lance worker with out hi dollar insurance. Everyone that comes here is in the same boat, your clinic should do better!

My recent experience at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine and Orthodontic Clinic on 1700 W Charleston left much to be desired. Upon arrival, the admin at the front desk displayed a complete lack of empathy and genuine care. When I inquired about potential alternate dental clinics that could assist my son, I was met with dismissiveness and the statement that it was not her responsibility to provide such guidance. This response left me feeling frustrated and unsupported.

In any customer service role, especially in a healthcare setting, it is crucial to prioritize empathy and genuine care for individuals seeking assistance. Staff should be trained to approach each interaction with sensitivity and a willingness to provide support and guidance. Rather than making individuals feel hopeless, staff should strive to offer assistance and provide information on available resources or alternate options. By adopting a supportive approach, clinics can better serve the community they are a part of and ensure that individuals feel valued and cared for during their interactions.

The rude women working the desk, the lines, the security, constantly being told where and where not to wait by rude staff and security because there's no signage to direct you. If you do decide to go, plan to arrive over an hour early so you can actually find your appointment location and not have them cancel on you for being late. Then also plan to be seen hours past that appointment time because why not make waiying times ridiculous and prepare dentists to be like every other self important medical professional that can't manage their time worth a damn. This place knows you are broke and need help, so they will treat you like human garbage knowing they can and you likely don't have any other options. You'll be seen when you are seen, not when you are scheduled, you'll wait in line to find out which line to wait in, to wait in a waiting room with people who have already been in there for 2 hours +

It’s sad that they recommend mediocre solutions for kids and teens. My son is currently going through extreme pain because of the neglect of the teachers and there for the actions of their students. You should think about the patient especially when going to school for it.

You guys!!!!! When I got to the dental school, I was in so much pain from waiting till the last minute to get dental work done. Although I had to wait due to my irresponsibility 😂😂 It wasn’t too long before Anthony came in and SAVED THE DAY!! He was very patient and precise all the way from the X-ray to the extraction. By the way I ended up getting 3 of my back teeth pulled! So 3 Extractions!!!
It’s been a few days now and I’m already feeling better!! Bye bye wisdom teeth!
Thank you UNLV dental school for helping me, listening, and being as informative as you possibly could be. Other than some numbing and pressure (which is normal when you’re trying to pull your chompers out of your mouth), the experience was pretty quick and easy. Thanks dental school!!! Thanks Anthony!!!!

Hi Katie I call you yesterday to ask for help and you send me to the practitioners dental clinic at charleston the reason I was asking for help was because the last student that did a filling on tooth 30 I believe it was the one behind my crown did a high filling and it need it to be adjusted that cause me months of pain and suffer I was looking for help and I did saw a dentis at the charleston clinic I saw experts on this but no one really adjusted the higt filling on fist place you have to admit the student not always are doing exelent that why they still students and some are really good but the point is at your clinic smiles unlv dental at Tropicana I have this bad filling done and I need it some one to adjusted but everyone was focus on the crown the crown wasn't the problem at all ..
But no I got recommended to see the dentist doctor to make me a nigth guard wich I don't need thanks God.

I'm sending this to you because I don't want any other client have this awful experience I pass because it was hard to admitted that your student didn't do a good Job and was easy to blame a crown some one else did.

I will send this on other pages no to do harm but to help who ever had and experience like ne that they don't need to suffer and make you think you the problem not recognizing some one need it to be responsible and fix it from the beginning..
I'm sending pictures on the before and afther thanks God I found some one else that nail it and fix something I would think I will Carrie with me for the rest of my life..

I just had my tooth completely restored today at UNLV Dental School. After having a previous filling come out I saw a dentist at A+ Dental that wanted to do a root canal and crown. Thank God I came here and got a second opinion because WOW! 😯 Anthony Alvarez was able to essentially reconstruct what felt like was half of my tooth! He was extremely detailed, on task, and informative. It has lengthened the life of my nerve and my tooth instead of jumping straight into the root canal and crown. Amazing! It was a really pleasant experience and will go back here for any other dental emergencies. I even hope to be able to continue my dental treatment plan here. Thank you UNLV Dental School & Anthony for everything you’ve done! 😊 🦷 🤩

This place is ridiculous. They did not have time put in my insurance info on my comprehensive exam day so I have to pay first and get the re-imbursement. I have not received any treatment plan and the clinic could not file for the insurance as the case was not closed.
After 4 months, they said it took 8-12 weeks to process my credit re-imbursement. By the way, it will cost you $5 and go to the clinic to request the X-ray film if you want to transfer the records in 2 weeks.

I haven't had any service yet because it's been so dang hard to get help.

Places like this, my opinion, don't really do all they can to help seniors. We need extra help that your front office staff sometimes don't provide.

On my recent visit, one of the ladies behind the booth just circled a location on a piece of paper. I couldn't understand much of what she said.

Like one person had said about first expressions. That day, there was no one in line; it didn't appear to be busy. So, why did the attitude and rudeness become a part of my inquiries? Was it because I had to keep coming back asking questions? Is that part of the UNLV Dental School of Medicine business model? I hope not.

I am in need of urgent care, but now I am a bit apprehensive. I have a serious autoimmune issue +, probably a dental infection, a lot of pain, bleeding, etc., so I would need regular reassurance from Dr. and student in my immediate dental care.

Can someone please help me? Dentists often go out of the country to help with the dental needs of various patients, how about helping someone here in Las Vegas! Thank you all for hearing me out. God bless you all!

I moved to Las Vegas and I need the teeth cleaning, I chose UNLV dental school because I thought the students and professors would be honest. The initial interview costed $25, and I was accepted to the program, the 2nd appointment costed $84 for comprehensive examination. After the lengthy x-rays and examinations, the student(said he was a dentist in India and is taking the 2-year program in UNLV) and his professor claimed I have 8 cavities, and I need the deep cleaning, also two crowns, the total will be $2,300. It's funny that I went to my dentist office regularly, I don't have toothache, and my dentist didn't find any problem with my teeth. So I refused to go back to UNLV, instead I got a dental insurance and found a dentist nearby for cleaning and checkup, and she told me everything is fine, not a single cavity, no gum bleeding, no need for deep cleaning and definitely no crowns is needed.

I give the school only 3 stars instead of 5 because of check in. Either they are just down right rude and nasty or they are indifferent and unfriendly. I rather the latter since these are the only options. I've been going to the school for several months now. The teachers and students are very attentive and care about your comfort , so they get 5 stars.. If I had to choose I guess it's better for the teachers and students to be nice then the check in women. It's just that the check in is your first impression and the face of the establishment so them being so rude is really off putting and looks bad for the School.

Sorry if this may be a double post, I'm unsure if I've reviewed UNLV yet.

I am absolutely astounded at the wonderful service here!!
The dentists, both the students and the full doctors, are all so knowledgeable, thorough, and most of all kind and gentle.

I have majour anxiety issues along with other mental illness, and they played calming jazz music over the computer every time I visited, which helped my anxiety wonders!

The wait is very quick, and the service is phenomenal.

I would especially like to say Dr. Ha Vy Le is the best dentist I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and she is so amazing,
thorough and talented at her profession!
She always makes me feel calm like I'm not even in a dentist's office,
and I've never seen a dentist as talented and caring about your needs.
I would recommend Dr. Ha Vy Le, and the entire dental school as
HIGHLY as I could possibly recommend them!
If you're going to a dentist, please please pick UNLV,
you will not regret it.
The place is fantastic.

It took me months to get an appointment with UNLV dental and when I did I was told it could take several appointments and months to do everything, which I completely expected and was okay with. My first appointment went well and was very short- just to get my history and whatnot. I was told from the very beginning that the students rely on patients to be on time and not cancel appointments since their grade and graduation depend on it. I kept all of my appointments as I said I would, but I have now been cancelled on by three separate students!
The first one to cancel on me cancelled less than 12 hours in advance, after I had already asked for that day off. Her reasoning was that she already had a 'barely passing grade and did not want to mess it up by performing poorly with me'. That is completely unacceptable!
The second one cancelled on me 24 hours in advance which was at least a little more notice.
The third one cancelled about 18 hours in advance due to an 'unexpected emergency'. That may be true, but I will assume it is a similar situation to what already happened the first time.
I have spent several months and several appointments to basically have them get my history and take impressions. Now I'm out that money, those days off work, and I have nothing to show for it!!
IF PATIENTS ARE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE APPOINTMENT, THE STUDENTS NEED TO BE AS WELL!!!!

the worst, very disrespectful, the student was great, when the female white dentist came to check on me, to see if I qualify, she looked at me as if I was worthless, and said in a rude tone, what is her issue, what is she trying to get done, then looked at me as if I was some low life, I work and I have insurance, but what my ex did to me, left me with broken and missing teeth, so I'm not a drug addict, I was just an abused woman, so for her too look at me like I was nothing and it was my fault, and when she said you don't qualify, I felt so broken, and broke down and cried, she just looked me, and said well maybe you can find a dentist that could help you.
