When I was asked if my imbalance came with dizziness, I said no and explained that it was more of a woozy feeling. I had to hold onto the walls when going from one room to another. When my imbalance is at its worse, it feels like I am carrying something heavy on my bodice experience extreme lethargy. I also would have a hard time concentrating. I thought my appointment would be longer than it was. I collapsed while on vacation. My muscles were not working. A back X-ray was ordered, but I have had MRI’s, etc. of my back that should be shared. Bloodwork was also ordered, but I have recently had complete bloodwork done that might be able to be used. I feel that my appointment was too short for me to explain everything.

I had a follow up appointment after a nerve test and Dr. Liz was my dr. I had previously told Dr. Yu on the day of nerve testing that I had difficulties and numbing in my feet and he informed me that I should address that at next appointment… So at my appointment with Dr. Liz, I told her that I needed to discuss my foot and get some testing done and at that appointment she told me I needed to make another appointment to address my foot. I said I am here and I am telling you that I am having problems with my foot… She said I know, but that’s just the way things work and I didn’t want to argue with her, but I thought that’s insane…. I’m here telling you I have a problem… I told you three weeks ago I had a problem… And you’re telling me to make another appointment for the same problem I Addressed twice. So then she said I’ll see you back-and-forth at six weeks and ask the scheduler to Make me appointment about my foot. So I go to the front desk and oddly tell the receptionist that I need an appointment for my foot and she says well the doctor says follow up In 4 to 6 weeks weeks and I said… I said yes I know this, but I need to address my foot and was told I need to make another appointment… She looks very confused and goes back to speak to the doctor and then comes back again and says OK. We need to get you scheduled for an EMG. So there’s a disconnect between the doctor and scheduling And their procedure because I asked the doctor for testing an imaging and was told that I needed to make another appointment just to address my foot when I had Addressed it TWO other times!! I understand Prior authorizations and referrals… But this doctor tried to tell me that I had to go back to my PCP and get a referral for my foot And come back again… When I informed her that my insurance does not require referrals. Had I not gotten an EMG scheduled a week later, I probably would’ve found another practice. Like I said, I understand insurance companies and I understand the process… But this sounds more like a money grab situation than following procedure! Thankful for the front desk/ scheduler, because she’s the ONE who got me scheduled a week later for an EMG and did not force me into another appointment to address an issue I had already addressed twice!

I hope the office management reviews their morning scheduling system. A group of patients and I had appointments scheduled before 7:30 AM, but the office did not open its doors until 8:00 AM, leaving everyone waiting outside. Better communication regarding true opening times and arrival expectations would greatly improve the patient experience.

Edit: I’d like to clarify that the staff (nurses and receptionist) were all GREAT, super friendly! The only reason for the 2 stars. Apparently this has been an on going issue with the key carrier not showing up on time. Very frustrating.

The wait was unacceptable. I got there early, which was on me. But I was told to be there at 2, for a ?2:15 appt. I did not get seen until almost 4 PM. I left work for this appointment. No one in the office ever said anything to me about the wait, no apology, nothing, until I mentioned it to Liza when she finally came in to see me. I heard staff outside the exam room laughing, having a great time with someone that had come in for a visit or something but no one could be bothered to stick their head in to apologize for the long wait. There were several of us also in the waiting area for quite a while before going into exam rooms. Again, nothing from staff about the wait..........

My elderly relative is a patient of this practice. After several appointments, I’ve noticed that the medical staff (not the front desk) could use more training in working with the elderly. They speak too quickly and use medical terminology which is very difficult for someone with cognitive issues to understand. I have had to “translate” what the doctor and nurses say into plain, simple English for my family member. For example— “no acute intracranial abnormalities. Stable volume loss and chronic small vessel changes” is very difficult for a nearly 80 yr old dementia patient to understand, especially when said very quickly. It would have been better to explain—“your tests showed there is nothing structurally wrong with your brain— it is normal for a person of your age.” Front desk staff are great.

My husband made an appt into your office for two reasons; his numb pinkie finger left hand and his diminished short memory issue, which is new and getting worse lately..you did nothing about evaluating him for dementia, I asked to be called when seeing him so I could fill you in on his symptoms, but you neglected to do that. I am my husbands patient advocate and as a RN for 50 yrs and still working in an ER, I find your care of my husband unexceptionable and not in his best interest. My husband did not want me to go with him on this visit due to the issues he is dealing with, and he does not want that known. It’s does need to be looked into for his own safety.

Was referred to Dr. Fermin 2 and a half years ago. I grew very frustrated with my current neurology office not so much because of the doctor but the fact that every time I called to schedule an appointment, it always went to voice mail with a promise of a returned call and no follow through. I always kept Dr Fermin’s referral paper. When I called her office I was surprised an actual person answered the phone, scheduled me and gave me all necessary info for my appointment. I will say I was very impressed with the way the office is ran. The most impressive thing was by the time I finished filling out all my paperwork and was called back, they already pulled my entire history of CAT scans, MRI, and had all my records from my previous neurologist. WOW. She was very nice and made me feel very comforted. I’m stoked to be her patient from here on out.

I’m getting really tired of playing these phone/voicemail games. I try getting a prescription refill for my seizures and always having to get transferred to Dr. Fermin’s Medical Assistant phone line and it always goes to voicemail and I never get a call back.
