My elderly relative is a patient of this practice. After several appointments, I’ve noticed that the medical staff (not the front desk) could use more training in working with the elderly. They speak too quickly and use medical terminology which is very difficult for someone with cognitive issues to understand. I have had to “translate” what the doctor and nurses say into plain, simple English for my family member. For example— “no acute intracranial abnormalities. Stable volume loss and chronic small vessel changes” is very difficult for a nearly 80 yr old dementia patient to understand, especially when said very quickly. It would have been better to explain—“your tests showed there is nothing structurally wrong with your brain— it is normal for a person of your age.” Front desk staff are great.

My husband made an appt into your office for two reasons; his numb pinkie finger left hand and his diminished short memory issue, which is new and getting worse lately..you did nothing about evaluating him for dementia, I asked to be called when seeing him so I could fill you in on his symptoms, but you neglected to do that. I am my husbands patient advocate and as a RN for 50 yrs and still working in an ER, I find your care of my husband unexceptionable and not in his best interest. My husband did not want me to go with him on this visit due to the issues he is dealing with, and he does not want that known. It’s does need to be looked into for his own safety.

Was referred to Dr. Fermin 2 and a half years ago. I grew very frustrated with my current neurology office not so much because of the doctor but the fact that every time I called to schedule an appointment, it always went to voice mail with a promise of a returned call and no follow through. I always kept Dr Fermin’s referral paper. When I called her office I was surprised an actual person answered the phone, scheduled me and gave me all necessary info for my appointment. I will say I was very impressed with the way the office is ran. The most impressive thing was by the time I finished filling out all my paperwork and was called back, they already pulled my entire history of CAT scans, MRI, and had all my records from my previous neurologist. WOW. She was very nice and made me feel very comforted. I’m stoked to be her patient from here on out.

I’m getting really tired of playing these phone/voicemail games. I try getting a prescription refill for my seizures and always having to get transferred to Dr. Fermin’s Medical Assistant phone line and it always goes to voicemail and I never get a call back.
