Healthcare providers work hard to earn the trust of their patients and build strong reputations. Unfortunately, administrative failures and ineffective communication can quickly undermine those efforts and negatively affect the patient experience.

I 100% agree with the comments that state this guy is dismissive, no compassion, absolutely terrible bedside manner. Trust the majority of the comments on this one. He seems to mock the patients diagnosis. Will not return.

I saw Dr. Pena today for the first time as a new patient. For a little background, I have lived all over the country, so I have experienced so far what have been both the highest highs and lowest lows that our healtchare system has to offer... or so I thought. Today I found a new low with Dr. Pena. He was unprofessional, dismissive, and didn't make eye contact at all. He did not listen to me and dismissed my autoimmune condition as me being a germaphobe, despite having a legitimate diagnosis in my medical history. I used to be a med student, so I am by no means an unintelligent individual, but he talked down to me the whole time and acted like I am an idiot. I have never in my life been spoken to as rudely as Dr. Pena spoke to me. If anyone is reasing this, I strongly urge you to seek care elsewhere, because he certainly has no care for any of his patients.

Made an appointment as 1st time patient; they called later when they had a cancellation and moved me up immediately---I didn't even request this; this practice is awesome! The staff is very caring and very efficient. Dr. Pena is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to listen to you. Highly recommend him.

I actually really like Dr.Pena. I moved to Nevada and had the challenge of finding a new doctor after having been with my prior doctor who was excellent for 15 years. I’m glad I chose Dr. Peña. I’ve found he’s genuinely interested in my health and partnering with me to address my health concerns and issues. I’m not as enthusiastic about how Valley Health Physicians is run and their botched EMR system rollout, but it’s a trade off I guess for having a good doctor.

Roehl Pena’s conduct as a medical professional is utterly unacceptable and falls far below the standards expected in healthcare. During my appointment, he openly mocked my severe back pain, dismissively asserting that nothing could be wrong. Despite my persistent and desperate requests for referrals to specialists, he refused until I was in tears, pleading for proper care. His behavior escalated when he abruptly interrupted me mid-sentence, stormed out of the examination room, and slammed the door, abandoning the appointment entirely. Subsequent evaluations from other providers confirmed multiple diagnoses, validating my concerns and underscoring his gross negligence. His unprofessionalism and disregard for patient care are profoundly disappointing, and his numerous negative reviews reflect a pattern of incompetence. Patients deserve far better.

Made an appointment a few weeks ago to see dr Pena today at 3:15pm. I walk in and front desk lady says I don’t have an appointment at all. On my mom, on everything I love I made an appointment for today at 3:15pm, had it written down as I was on the phone. Either they didn’t put it in or the system glitched i don’t know but I made the appointment and it ain’t my fault. Had to call off work and everything and I wouldn’t just walk in without an appointment. Not gonna lie the lady was being snarky so I understandably crashed out. I think they record the phone calls so if anyone that works there is reading this check the recording. Already scheduled an appointment with a new doctor and will never be coming back.

Really struggling here just trying to get lab orders for an upcoming appointment Why is this so hard? Called 20 times already to get either an answering machine (left messages, no one calls back) or I am placed on hold for 20 mins. I also sent an email via client portal (no response). Simple basic customer service does not seem to exist here.

Adding to this original review. Been 3 months since I left my original review, Trying to get in contact for several days now. Tried calling 20+ times, left message. No response. You leave me no option but to find another PCP.

Very frustrating!

I started to see Dr. Pena since beginning of 2024, office is very clean, his assistant was very nice every time. But today I called to refill my medicine, a very rude and impolite office worker answered my call. later I said "thank you", she hanged up on me rudely even without saying anything. I am Dr. Penn's patient, I was not supposed to be treated like this!

Dr Pena has changed my life. When I moved to LVNV 2 years ago, I was seriously ill. When traditional testing in my prior state came back normal, I was considered to be a hypochondriac. Dr Pena brought me up-to-date with my wellness screening. He also made several excellent referrals to drill down to the source of my problems. I now feel 10-15 years younger and am able to exercise and engage in activities. A great thanks to Dr Pena and the practice.

I have never felt so unheard, misdiagnosed, and dismissed in my life. Dr. Peña's lack of empathy and care led me to seek a new provider. To clarify, I came in with severe migraines, anxiety, and what I believe was postpartum depression. I requested migraine medication and a mental health leave of absence from work. At work, I had two panic attacks, and my site manager recommended the leave, which was approved by HR. However, Dr. Peña denied the leave because I did not want to start anxiety and depression medication. I was returned to full duty to deal with my anxiety and postpartum depression even though my site manager supported the leave. Dr Pena was ok putting me on aniexty medication but not ok with me having 8 days to (with scheduled therapy sessions) try and calm myself organically. Mental health is not taken seriously in Nevada and especially not in this office.

Location was perfect based on the area I live in... Office was clean and neat. The office staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. My wait time was great. I arrived early as requested to complete paperwork and was back having vital completed within 15-20 minutes tops. Dr. Pena saw me approximately 10 minutes later. I felt heard about my concerns and he seconded the opinion of the urgent care physician I had seen previously. I have a follow up and a plan moving forward that I am "very" comfortable with, and I am glad to say that I once again have a PCP that I feel good about.

Worst PCP ever. I will never go back. He doesn’t listen to concerns I have or even acts concern about what I say. I told him I was in pain and he gave me unlimited amounts of Ibuprofen 800 which put me in the ER with a severe stomach bleed and needed emergency surgery to repair it. I found someone else and they’re great. I truly regret ever being a patient of his. This was my personal experience with Dr. Pena, I would’ve loved to have the same experience as others because it seems that he’s great with other patients, but for some reason was not with me.

I would recommend Valley Physicians Alliance to anyone seeking excellent medical care. From the office staff that you first meet when you enter the office. To all the Doctors and Nurses that you meet are all outstanding. They listen to you and and give you the correct care that you need, to keep you, and your body healthy. I would definitely recommend my Doctors, Dr. Pena. He is very knowledgeable and gives you the care you need. You will leave your Doctors appointment, with the right medicines, X-ray, lab test or any other testing that is needed for your medical care.

Best experience I’ve had with a doctor’s office, hands down. Everyone in the front office was friendly and helpful. We were seen at the appointment time, which I appreciate. I'm sure Dr. Pena would agree that it would be great if doctors didn't have to take that darn Hippocratic oath so that they could more bluntly turn away patients that aren't an easy quick diagnosis! Those darn patients you can't just throw a couple of prescriptions at and be done with so that you can make money faster! That'd sure save us all a lot of hassle.

After about over a year under Dr Pena's care I am left with the same initial undiagnosed problem and a higher dosage of the same initial prescription. "I can't help you" was what Dr. Pena said to me at my final appointment with him. Heard loud and clear doc! Don't waste your time (or Dr. Pena's apparently) if you have any medical issues that Dr. Pena can't think of the prescription for right at the top of his head. Dr. Pena will not be doing a quick google search, definitely not hitting the books, no referrals to more qualified doctors, at most you will get an x-ray he'll skim over, if Dr. Pena can't throw a prescription at you, he will let you know in the nicest way possible and with a big smile across his face " I can't help you go somewhere else" . Gotta respect the hustle though.

I will definitely have to venture into medical tourism, but rest assured Dr. Pena will always be accepting new patients! :)

pros -His lack of tact is refreshing and I actually enjoyed how I would spend more time in the waiting room than in the actual consultation, quick in and out like a doctor drive thru!

cons - condescending, dismissive, and strangely arrogant.

Dr. Pena lacks empathy and a compassionate bedside manner. I do not recommend him if you are looking for a good patient experience. Additionally the office is averse to completing prior authorization paperwork and I had to have my former provider submit a prior authorization request for medication that the insurer later approved. Poor customer service and patient care.

I have always been received in this office with a smile and a sense of respect. The waiting room is always clean as is the room I am put in while waiting for the Dr. to come...
Dr. Pena always has a smile and greets me warmly.
As I prefer to be an active participant in my health care and I have been in this body for 86 1/2 years, we do have some "healthy" discussions about several things. I appreciate this, but realize it is Dr. Pena with the medical degree! I take responsibility for my own decisions and I value his views. I am not one to just sit ...I always have questions.
Thank you for asking my opinion. And I hope to see the Dr. In about 6 months as per his request.

I used to love to go to doctor Pena's office when he had his own private office, but since he moved to Centennial Hills Hospital everything changed. There is a wait not only on the phone to get someone to pick up a call, but also after one has gotten an appointment. I had one scheduled for August 25th. I made it ahead of time. A day before, someone calls to cancel it because the doctor is going on vacation. That doesn't bother me at all.

But, today, when I am preparing to go see him in the afternoon, someone calls my husband to say that I better make a phone call to have an appointment over the phone since all I need to do is hear my lab results. My husband texts me and when I see the message hours later, I call the office. A lady picks up and tells me that it is not possible that someone called me. She even says I don't have an appointment. It is upsetting, of course. I tell her my appointment was moved from August 25th to September 12th at 3:00 p.m. I tell her my appointment was scheduled for 3:45 p.m. initially and if they moved it, it should be for the same time, not at 3:00 p.m. I explained that at that time I am working so there is no way I could set it up 3:00 p.m. Besides I had already scheduled it for 3:45 but they had changed it, not me. Anyway, this lady at the phone tells me I might as well come so that I not lose my appointment. Here I am. I approach the lady at the counter and she tells me my appointment was at 3:00 and I had just lost it. This is infuriating! She gets me really upset. She goes inside and then comes out saying the doctor will see me when there is a spot available. Twenty minutes later, she says she will reschedule me. What a bad experience! This is definitely not a doctor Pena's thing. Some of the staff is really horrible! Those ladies at the counter don't do a good job. The nurses are fine, but the office staff is terrible!

My husband is a patient of Dr. Pena and respects him. However, I am his wife, have never met him but I think the office staff reflects his feelings for his patients.
We are from the Chicagoland area and moved here almost 2 years ago. I think Healthcare in this area rates very poorly, at least for my husband. He's a very young 76 year old with enlarged bilateral neck lymph nodes found on his neck US from May 26th. Dr. asked him to wait one week and if he didn't hear back from the office, to call back for an ENT referral for a neck biopsy. Ruling out possibilities of autoimmune diseases or lymphoma.( I've been a nurse for 43 years, mostly in Oncology.) We called everyday this week and never got to speak to the office staff. The answering service has taken each call and relayed the messages. NO RESPONSE. This may not be important to the office or doctor but if any of them cared in the very least, for goodness sake, call the poor man back so he can get an ENT referral to have a neck biopsy to rule out cancer. I come from working with very conscientious people and this is really ridiculous!
If they are short-staffed then something else should be done. SOMEONE should call him back. This causes undue stress for him and our family. If he does not hear back next week, we may have to find another provider.

Dr. Pena is a great doctor it's the office staff that come off rude and act like they don't have time to give messages to the doctor when it's urgent. They never answer their phones. I've been calling 2 straight days and haven't talked to anyone.b I'll have to find another doctor.

As a new patient, I arrived early in order to fill out paperwork. When I walked in the office patients were unmasked and chatting away on their cell phones. The Front counter took my temperature 97.4 degrees and handed me a clipboard. I assumed that it was about being a new patient and reasons why I visited. I filled it out, one sheet and sat back down. As I did I’m hearing the receptionist saying we double booked this doctor and we need to cancel that persons appointments to free up this doctor. They offered zoom calls to patients like they were lollipops. After sitting for 30-45 minutes, they called me up to the counter to tell me that I could not see the doctor because I had COVID. No testing, nothing! Apparently Dr. Pena was over booked too! I said wow if I have Covid I just sat in your waiting room for 45 minutes and infected everyone that came through here! I suggested that they contract trace everyone and make sure they get tested! But of course that’s not going to happen. No, I assumed that I was double booked too! And guess what, they pushed for me to have a zoom call too. An hour later I get a call for a zoom call and they told me they sent me a link? Now since I was a new patient and had given no information, I asked “really?, to who?” They gave me someone’s email but it was not mine so I’m sorry to that person too! Wow… this place is a comedy of errors, what will they do with your diagnosis! I spoke with Dr. Pena and explained what happened and he half listened and said “I don’t control the staff we have here” which made me think, that’s his bedside manner? Wow this is not a good doctor that cares about his patients only about the money. I would not recommend this place to anyone! Good Luck to those patients he has but there has to be better out there! I'd give zero stars if i could!

This review reflects our feelings for the clinic and Dr Pena in general. Here's our story; I called in March to get an appointment for my husband's ER Follow Up. I was told his provider was on medical leave until May. I asked for a different provider and was told the physicians do not share patients. I was not really comfortable waiting since my husband's ER Xray said he needed a follow up Xray. But we chose to wait, thinking it would be better to stay with the same provider. When my husband's appointment was drawing near, he received a call that his provider was no longer with the clinic and cancelled his appointment. I called and asked, if his provider would be coming back or did they know where we could find her. Kelly Fink is a great provider and the reason we went to that clinic. The receptionist said no one knew anything about it. (Really? I doubt that). Finally my husband saw Dr Pena after ANOTHER month of waiting for an ER follow up. 3 MONTHS WAITING. Wow. My husband did not care for him. He did not answer questions and wasn't able to get labs done after my husband came in fasting for labs. Xray and Colonoscopy were also needed, But Dr Pena left and no one helped my husband. The receptionist handed a requisition form to him, which he had no idea what to do with. I have called multiple times, I have left multiple messages and no return call. This place is a disaster. They can't even answer the phone. When a doctor's office can't be bothered to even answer a call, that's a red flag to me. I've called several times.
Personally, I've worked in medicine my whole life, even managing a doctors clinic in Seattle years ago. So, I know a little. This place is not in it for the patient. It's under a corporation that doesn't appear to care about the physical human being in front of them and their care. They care about the dollar bill. End of Story. Beware of the Care in Las Vegas. If you don't like the doctor on the first visit it isn't going to get better.
