While Dr. Mercado himself may be a well-meaning physician, the administrative infrastructure of his practice is structurally broken, making him functionally inaccessible when you actually need medical care.
As an established patient, my experience trying to navigate this office has been incredibly frustrating:
• Severe Phone Barriers: Getting anyone to answer the phone is a major challenge. I have had instances of calling repeatedly from Monday through Thursday during business hours before getting a live person, with the line simply ringing and then going to a non- informative voicemail queue.
• Administrative Gatekeeping: I requested to speak with the office manager on two occasions regarding these communication issues. I was promised call-backs that never happened, and staff gave absurd excuses as to why they couldn’t transfer me or why the manager couldn't receive voicemails.
• Chaotic Workflows: Internal communication is fractured. For a prescription refill, I was told by a Medical Assistant that the doctor needed to speak with me first, only to have the refill randomly pushed to my pharmacy anyway while my portal message to Dr. Mercado regarding the refill went completely unanswered.
• Zero Triage or Acute Care Support: Most recently, I called for a week long issue. I was told there were no appointments for 3 weeks. Despite being an established patient—and despite the practice offering telehealth—the staff failed to offer a virtual triage visit. When I finally told them I would just have to go to urgent care instead, they simply said "ok" rather than offering any actual guidance or care coordination.

If you only need a routine yearly physical scheduled months in advance, this office might work for you. But if you want a primary care doctor you can actually reach when you are actively sick or dealing with an acute issue, I highly recommend looking elsewhere.

I'm very hopeful that I found the right PCP for me. I'm different patient with different issues. I like to give others who don't know me as a person a heads up about being different. And I did with Dr Mercado as well. I was happy that he was patient with me even when I got upset when I was told something that I personally don't think should be said. But he did try to word it better and corrected it by letting me know that all he wants to do is know that he'll do whatever he can to help me with my issues. He gained my trust to where I have hope that he is the correct Dr for me. I hope that he can remain being patient with me and all my difficulties as a patient because I'm sure he'll end up being happy that he didn't. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I have asthma and requested a refill of my albuterol inhaler, which is a rescue medication used when you're having trouble breathing. Instead of approving the refill, my doctor denied it and required me to schedule an office visit.

It felt like an unnecessary hurdle for a medication I've already been prescribed and have an established need for. Requiring an appointment before authorizing access to a rescue inhaler I've had for more than a year comes across as prioritizing another billable office visit over patient convenience and continuity of care.

If there was a legitimate medical reason for the denial, it was never explained to me. Better communication and a more patient-centered approach would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, this experience has made me question whether this practice puts patients first.

I am beyond ecstatic at being seen by Dr. Mercado with the operative word being "seen". My previous primary care physician was good, yet I never felt seen as a person. Just had my 1st visit with Dr Christopher Mercado. He was easy to speak with and took the time to discuss my medical history and answer any questions I had without being rushed. I’m glad to have him as my PCP.
Instead of prostate exams Valley Health care uses blood tests to check for prostate cancer and Cologuard for colon cancer. This is a welcome option for those who are not fans of invasive exams!

I was seeking a new Primary Doctor. A friend recently changed to Dr. Mercado and he suggested I give him a chance. I had to wait six months for my first meeting (Jan 2025) but it was worth it! The Receptionist and Front Office team were pleasant and helpful. From my check in at the front desk until I was called into the Doctor's office was 5 minutes--what a pleasant shock!
Dr. Mercado had a high energy level, he was personable and professional. We had a 6 month game plan so I saw the doctor in June 2025, Dec 2025 and June 2026. The June 2026 meeting showed all my numbers moving in the right direction plus losing a few pounds. We agreed the next meeting would be in 1 year - June 2027. I wish I had made the move to Dr. Mercado years earlier.

Poor service. Hard to get an appointment. I finally had a 7:40am appointment and hit lots of traffic as I live 40 minutes from the office. I could tell that this drive was going to take over an hour this morning. I tried to call them to see if they would allow me to be late or if I’d need to reschedule however their phones don’t open until 8am. If you’re taking appointments at 7:40 how do you not have phone lines open until 8am? They no showed me after I got all the way here and told me I’d need to reschedule. No thanks! If you ever have any questions about your health in-between appointments it’s also nearly impossible to get ahold of the doctor.They want you to use an app however never gave me clear instructions on what app or how to use it.

Dr Christopher mercado is very nice doctor i fallowed him from dignity health very caring . I called about 2 weeks ago to see if i can get ear drops for ear infection send to my pharmacy and the receptionist was not nice at all no care and she said u need appointment and she didnt had any available soon and i told her if she can send the message to the doctor for the ear drops and she said she will and she will call me back for the update and if i have to come in for the appointment. We have followed Dr. Christopher Mercado as our primary physician for many years now. Easily reachable via portals and his staff online (which is important in our busy lifestyles) in addition to always feeling well taken care of in his office when face-to-face, we continue to be pleased with our care. Dr. Mercado explains complex issues from heart to hives in easy to understand ways. Despite high volume offices, we feel we have good quality time with him during visits. Board certified to boot, which was important to us. Glad to still have him as our doc and would absolutely recommend if seeking a family practice.

Dr Christopher Mercado is an incredible doctor. He’s not a pill pusher. He listens to you, hears what you say and offers his informed opinion. If he doesn’t have an answer he will tell you and will possible send you on to someone who does. He cares about you as a person. You are not a number. He always has plenty of time for his patients even if you are a late afternoon patient. I travel 60 miles to see him. Wouldn’t change doctors unless I moved out of state.
