Dr. Kalra is a great doctor. Not only is she very knowledgeable, she is also extremely kind, patient, and courteous. She has been my parent’s primary care provider for a few years and they absolutely adore her. On the other hand, her nurse practitioner, Shalom Nadler, is just ordinary compared to Dr. Kalra. While he is also very knowledgeable, he is nowhere near as consistently kind and patient. Since my parents are from the Philippines, English is their second language. Sometimes they need an extra moment or two to process what has been said. Or, they may even need a better explanation. A few moments can go a long way in smoothing over any confusion or concerns. Yet on a few occasions, I have seen Shalom be a tad unpleasant and/or sarcastic, as if he was irritated by my parents line of questions. In fact, the last time my mom visited Shalom, he rolled his eyes at her. Very bad form, Shalom. Yes, she did ask an irrelevant question about his prescription, but it his job to talk patients through their concerns, valid or not. I was tempted to confront Shalom right on the spot. I always accompany my parents to every appointment so I closely observe how they are treated. I come from a culture that places heavy emphasis on the respect of elderly people, so I am very sensitive to these types of behavior. Important to note: we are always very friendly, engaging, and polite with all of the staff, including Shalom. My dad and I always properly greet him like gentlemen with a handshake. That said, there have been times where he has been friendly as well, but Dr. Kalra is consistently terrific. You can tell she deeply cares for her patients.

First of all, I do not like very early appointments. The experience when I walked in made a difference. The front staff made me feel so welcome and it didn’t take but 10 minutes before I was called to the back. Ms Cheryl was very nice and patient. She helped me with paperwork, took my vitals and found my cane. Dr Kalra came in quickly and introduced herself with a smile. She was not dismissive or not wanting to do her job. She was very kind. Ask me questions and I asked her questions. I gave her a lot of info about myself and she put it all in the computer. We both made sure all information was in. I love them for this experience and I will be back.
